A song in my head.....

Jordan Knight and Deborah Gibson: Say Goodbye

Jordan

Yeah
I've been so lost lately
I don't really understand baby
Where did I go wrong
I wanna talk to you
Please call
Deborah
Where do I begin with you
after all that we've been through
I don't think that it would be right if we
got together so suddenly
Jordan
I wish that I could take back all of the things that I said
and replace them with simply I love you instead

Deborah
You didn't wanna say goodbye
But you never really seem like you wanna try
Jordan
But I really wanted you to stay
and then I let you just slip away
Deborah
If you didn't listen to your heart inside
then it really doesn't matter what was on your mind
and if you need me then tell me why
Jordan
Girl, I never meant to say goodbye
Mmm Oh yeah.....

Besides Research??

Since starting BMedSc in IMU, time has been never more flexible. Besides doing lab work, feeding rats, killing rats and collecting shit from crows (not yet, going to...not me though!!), there really isn't anything much to do for research except maybe seat in front of the computer trying to pass the time. Well, that's for some of us.

But one of the best things about doing research in IMU, is not often the research itself but food. You see, from the day we started this course, there is definitely something special we would all eat every week thanks to our chocoholic babe, Debbie, who also brings cookies. Mei Siang who makes cakes for all of us, some of which are really worthy of kicking Secret Recipe's butt. Some of us also bring some great tidbits to munch the time away, which also includes me.

Of course, we don't have a feast everyday. We're not chefs in training, for that matter...But even without the constant supply of food daily from our batch, I admit that I am already putting on a bit of weight, which I hate. Here I am trying to buff myself up with muscles, and my white flag is already half-raised, perpetually leading me to surrender to all the gastronomic delight.

I can't believe that even as I write this I'm not even whining or complaining. I guess the white flag would be fully raised anytime soon. Sigh.....

What was already on the menu:

  • Chocolates from Debbie's store
  • Ferrero Rocher, Debbie
  • Swiss Chocolates, also debbie, me, yewin
  • Shortbread,
  • Pineapple tarts, yewin
  • Pringles, me
  • Cookies courtesy of Debbie
  • batik cake, Mei Siang
  • Marble cheese cake, Mei Siang
  • Chocolate cheese cake, Mei Siang
  • Coconut pudding, Mei Siang
Not that I'm particular who made the food. Juz as long as the food keeps coming in, its fine.. HAHA

White flag at full mast!!!

Reaffirming the Supremacy of the Federal Constitution

In view of the recent events that has occurred. Some of you must have known that decisions made on some sensitive cases in the country have drawn strong criticisms from the public. It is important therefore that being a democratic country and a country tolerant of all faiths, right decisions have to be made in accordance with the constitution, which truly represent all races in this country regardless of creed or colour.

A petition has been drawn out to the Malaysian Government in an effort to reaffirm the supremacy of the Federal Constitution.

Please visit "Open Letter: Reaffirming the supremacy of the Federal Constitution", hosted on the web by PetitionOnline.com, the free online petition service at:

Everything Heroes...

This seems to be a complete waste of time. Posting something that has already existed. The title speaks for itself. The NBC website on Heroes is already filled with all the necessary information one would need to digest, and even if it is physiologically possible to perform such a thing, our stomach would have problems taking in every information unless of course if we do have the extra compartments of a cow.

So most probably, the human body would excrete all the information as wastes, maybe in the form of a very watery, loose secretion known as diarrhoea.

How on earth would I be able to condense so much information in this space? Though I had the intention to do such a thing I wouldn't, because its plagiarizing information that is the sole property of the company who had created Heroes. I guess I had already posted enough of gibberish... before I go to the real matter.

As you might already know, I'm quite a big fan of Heroes. I decided to check out their website if it offered any sort of Ability Analyzer or something of that sort. Lo and behold, their website did offer such a thing, and its simply called the Ability Quiz.

After answering all the questions the FIRST TIME, I did have an ability and guess what...

The ability to sling webs... I was like what?? Spiderman??

Considering that Spiderman 3 is juz around the corner. Could this be an ulterior motive to promote the third show in its most subtle way to misinterpret my abilities as a web slinger. Not that I despise Spiderman. I love it and thanks to Alex I can watch it for free. Way to go dude. I digress....

Can't they just give me some character that I can relate to? Well I don't know. Maybe there will be a "spiderman" character later on in the show. Fine I know I shouldn't complaint. I can be a Hero...HAHA

Oh yes. My Fav Hero is Hiro Nakamura.

About Masi Oka, a.k.a Hiro Nakamura in Heroes

  1. He is a genius, an IQ of 180....OMeGOSH!!!
  2. He speaks fluently in four different languages; Japanese English, German and Spanish.
  3. He worked in Industrial Light and Magic, a company owned by George Lucas.
  4. Won a Golden Globe Award in the Best Supporting Actor on a TV series category.

Arrggghhh...Bacterial Contamination!!!

In what I call "The worst bacterial contamination possibly " in IMU Research Lab history, it caused quite a stir for me here at the postgraduate lab. I absolutely did not know what to do. It kinda was like a brick fell on my teeny-weeny little toes. Minus the swelling, it caused quite an equal amount of pain emotionally. I had to dump 9 out of 10 of my culture flasks.

Bacteria was literally swimming through their self-made currents in the medium which was supposed to sustain and allow growth of my breast cancer cells. It turned out that I have been breeding Bacillus and Cocci species along with my poor MCF 7 cells throughout the weekend.

Dr. Yiap told me to pray....

And I said, "Ya, OK so that the cells can grow."

He said, "No. Not just that. So that bacteria wouldn't grow together with your cells!!!."

Ok, Ya I did pray. But it seems that it only worked for the previous batch. The one where Dr. Yiap had last handled the cells before he passed them to me.

Hmmm....

The Bacilli was wriggling in the medium, sort of twitching back and forth from head to tail, ok that's if they actually had those parts anatomically speaking. Maybe they have a head cause at higher power they really had those small bobs at one end. For the cocci, it was more like a bit of swimming plus a little bit of vibratory movements.

My cell culture turn out to be a bacteria culture. What a waste of lab resources. Cell Culture guru, Bazlin came and confirm my suspicion, and she let off a soft "Ewww...." and immediately she told me that I have to dispose of it but before that each of the contaminated flasks had to be bleached before disposing them.

Iggy had a great time looking and feeling geli by the bacteria. Pictures were taken also but sorry no photos at the moment, maybe later on.

But really, it is an invaluable experience to see how bacteria look like in a contaminated cell culture flask. I say this not in the sense of having pride from this achievement but as a lesson that should be learn.

*****From now on, I have to really be careful on my sterile techniques. Probably I shouldn't start off with too many culture flasks.*****

IMU BALL - Bella Noche

Not interested in writing a long post on this one. Last year's Ball at Marriott, was better in terms of the food and the ballroom was so pack this year. Marriott had more breathing space. But they were performances this year. But I really loved the funny flash video last year

Immediately after the ball, we went to Mont Kiara , to celebrate Clarissa's birthday at Starbucks, near Plaza Mont Kiara. Supposedly Starbucks was 24/7 but thanks to the misinformation from Calvin, we all had to go to Coffee Bean, which is also open 24 hrs. To our great frustration, even Coffee Bean closed early!!

Eeshhh... With all the tired faces, and the some smeared mascara and the unforgettable zombie Alicia look. We decided that Sri Hartamas was the way to go, and there it was we stopped by at Warong Uncle Don's and their specialty there was the Shisha and their splendid waffles. Their waffles are really good.

This is waffle with vanilla ice cream blended with honey, peanut butter and topped up with banana split.

There are a whole lot of varieties at Uncle Don's but don't be fooled by the photo. They actually serve quite a large portion and it's good supper which made the ball dinner forgettable.

Clarissa had a "Waffle" cake, and all of us enjoyed the waffles there though we were quite curious about the Shisha nearby. But we'll save that for another day..

We left at about 3 in the morning at reached home at about 3.20. Thankfully, Hartamas was a place that kind of never sleeps even at that time. Most of us were still quite awake when we left Uncle Don's but when I reach home, my brain was already beginning to shut down before my body could. After everything, I slept at 4...Wat a day...

A pretty half-hearted movie review..

Oh I just watched Meet the Robinsons and boy it was funny. It's one of those really good animation movies from Walt Disney in a long time. Err...maybe it's because there's still a kid somewhere in me that's why I think it's funny, but maybe it's also I like cartoons or should it be animations. But not all type of cartoons or animations for that matter!!! Alright, it's still subjective on how you judge a movie to be funny.

Believe me, when the movie started after all those dumb..ads, I thought I was in the wrong theatre. It started off by showing some really old classic Walt Disney cartoon for about 10-15 minutes before showing the real thing.

I was kind of like wandering has Disney ran out of ideas to make good shows; by borrowing material from the past. One family actually went out halfway and came back later only to find out that it started right after the cartoon.

To cut a long story short, the "real thing" started off only after that, maybe because it was some sort of longg ad to promote their old Disney classics.

Spoilers ahead....

The entire show revolves around this orphan, a brilliant 12-yr old kid, Lewis who is a real whiz, He is always inventing things. He stays in a foster home, and he hopes one day someone would adopt him. His most amazing invention is the memory retriever, which was inspired by the fact that the only way he could leave the adoption house is if he met his mother. After all the meticulous research and late-night projects, he finally finished it. He brought it to the science fair one day, and then suddenly a kid, supposedly a police from the future told him to be on the lookout for a guy with a hat.

And that's when trouble started, from there on, he was transported back and forth in time, meeting up with his future family and also having a lot of fun on the way. The villain in the show has only one motive, to destroy his future and to change history.

*********End of Spoiler**********

On the whole, the storyline is understandable, interesting and peppered with some hillarious moments. You might think that telling a story about an orphan, a villain and his family may seem all too straightforward or predictable even with a little bit of science fiction thrown into it but Disney has certainly done a good job telling it by introducing some interesting characters with strange personality/behaviour mix with good Disney dialogue. The hat was an interesting character. Watch the show and you will know what I mean....

I'll say this show, rates as one of the top Disney movie on my Disney Movies List.

It's an A for the Robinsons!!!

TIENS Group

I have to say this, this blog post is really long overdue, and ever since Boon Wah came and approach me on his "business presentation", I could only recall only scraps of what I can remember on TIENS. And I even promised to tell others about this company when i decided that I don't want to join. But if they do, I would not hesitate to join...

What??

Company??

Join??

If you guys are lost, Tiens is actually a multinational company which functions very much like Amway, you know those Amway products. I'm sure most of you guys out there must have encountered people who are in to this kind of business coaxing and persuading you to buy all their products and of course join them. The most popular in Malaysia, based on current affairs would be Amway

Tiens develops and sells health-care products which combines the best of Western and Tradiotional Chinese medicine. They sell everything from tablets to supplements. Some of these helps ease stiffness of joints in rheumatoid arthrits, problems of malabsorption, skin care. These are just their normal products, they have some really cool gadgets that really helps alleviate some medical ailments. If my memory serves me well, there is some comb from Tiens that removed a clot from a woman with stroke and she got so much better the next day even when all other advance medical treatment failed. They are also into beauty care and home care but don't ask me on the details.

They are currently listed under Fortune 500 as one of the biggest company in the world and they overtook Microsoft by being the fastest growing company in the world penetrating at least 170 countries. The CEO, Mr. Li is the sceond richest man in China. The company has won numerous awards and one of the most impressive is the FDA approval on its products. Locally they have halal certification...duh!! Ok, they have many many more....

If you have never heard of them, don't fret over it cause they are relatively new here but in Indonesia, just next door to us. They are HUGE and I mean HUGE!!!. From what I was presented, the top 3 richest people in Indonesia all got rich from Tiens alone. There is a true story saying that this dude, a pirated CD seller in a local night market started thinking of joining Tiens. And so he did, and withing a period of less than two years, the company gave him a FREE BMW and within 5 years, he built his very own villa for FREE...Yeap sounds unbelievable(also like some gimmick to join them) but according to the presentation, if you manage to go even higher, you can get a free plane as in NOT Boeing or Airbus but a private jet of your own choice.

And for the uninitiated, the Tiens system is very similar if not, closely similar to Amway. There is sort of a ranking system and you basically go up higher if you introduce Tiens to others. THERE IS NO GOING DOWN even if you don't do anything but join them. The higher "level" you go, the more you earn and once you reach a certain level, you'll be earning much more that most blue collar workers and professionals have even after working for decades. This is something that Tiens can guarantee if you were committed to them for only two years. Committed as in introducing Tiens to more and more people, or maybe if you want to sell their products which is a bonus.

It sounds really easy but it is true. For more info, please visit www.tiens.com or TIENS China

If anyone is interested, just leave your comments and I can arrange a business presentation or just send me a mail at bryan.ps@gmail.com

Disclaimer: Please do not refer to my opinion or facts as a basis to join this company. There are merely a reproduction of what I could remember from the business presentation. If you want clarification or are suspicious of any fallacious claims about Tiens please ask me for a business presentation. I can arrange it for you. For your info, I'm not a member yet though I have expressed much interest in joining them.

A Truly Inspiring Book

This book is a gem of its kind. Truly Mitch Albom has produce some of the greatest books of all times. I've already read "The five people you meet in heaven", which is truly a great book to read.

This book looks at life in a different perspective and documents the true story of a teacher-student relationship, an extraordinarily rare one if you read the book.

Close Encounter of the Lucky Kind

If there is any chance of meeting one of the greatest sportsman in our country, it is not impossible but very difficult. And here it was, our first encounter with the brilliant and amazing Tan Boon Hiong(in the centre) at Allison, a restaurant somewhere in Seri Petaling. Actually, their training centre is just around the corner at the Bukit Jalil Sports Complex.

If it wasn't for Hong Lim, we wouldn't have spotted him at all who is just sitting a few tables away from us.

Sheesshhh... How blind can we be....

Of course getting an autograph would be a bonus, but he appeared quite embarrassed when I approach him, so nvm a picture together would be good enough. And there you go a picture of Me, Hong Lim, Tan Boon Hiong, Ignatius, Debbie, and Siow Wei(from left)
