X Men: The Last Stand

Caution, spoilers ahead.....And if you fear that you may develop preconceived judgements and opinions regarding the show after reading this halfway, please do not continue. I do not want to poison your mind. But don't worry the show isn't all too bad. If you think that this is all that you should know please don't read what's below also, cause you may rate the show as kick ass or darn good if you see it youselfff..!!! But if you are so darn stubborn, then you might as well continue to read. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

As the title suggests, it would sound that this movie marks the end of the trilogy of X-Men. So being one of the most anticipated movie of this year, I was crossing my fingers that this last instalment would end with a bang plus the X factor. So after watching the movie at Times Square today, I've come to discover that it was a job modestly done by stand-in director Brett Ratner.

Now my issues with Brett Ratner

  1. HOW COULD HE NOT MAKE THIS MOVIE BETTER???sob
  2. HOW COULD HE NOT MAKE THIS MOVIE BETTER???sob sob
  3. HOW COULD HE NOT MAKE THIS MOVIE BETTER???sob sob sob...
First, Brett Ratner isn't suppose to direct the show. I've know idea why they even choose him to replace Brian Singer as a stand-in director given his movie credentials, (some small movies....many... not even heard before) and mind you, he had to learn how to make a superhero movie from Brian Singer for a while, who happened to leave the X men project for another blockbuster superhero movie: Yup u guessed it.... Superman.( Hopefully, Superman is a better show. )

But given the above fact, fortunately, yes I REPEAT the show did not turn out to be a flop. The problem was the show was too short to actually fit so many mutants, the addition of Colossus, Shadowcat, Juggernaut, Beast, Multiple Man and "Archi"(shockwave girl). Development of the characters was too little and Juggernaut was so dumb in the show, i think he's a guy with superhuman strength but an intellectual capability of a nine year old kid.

Scott, was transformed into a cry baby, but that is understandable, considering his lost but what is even more ridiculous is that, throughout the entire movie that was only what he was suppose to do. I think Brett Ratner should have developed his character more before killing him off. Storm did better this time comparatively to the first two movies. The aforementioned new characters also were immediately brought into action amidst the war between the mutants and humans over the "cure". I think the problem with the show is that it needed to be an action movie. So I guess Brett Ratner compromised between what the people wanted and what the movie should have been. In fact from the moment the "cure" was discovered, the show somehow was shifted "instinctively" towards how Magneto and co was trying to destroy the "cure" and how the good mutants were trying to stop them, with a bit of distraction from Phoenix, the other side of Jean.

Now for the juicy part, Phoenix was ultimately the most scary mutant I've ever seen. CGI and special effects were awesome. The redecoration of Jean's house was wonderful, the shifting bridge and the final showdown at Alcatraz was really good not to mention the transformation of Jean was convincing enough to tell that she has turned evil. Action scenes were no doubt good at certain areas, the incident at the house was pretty shocking for me and what a sad way for Professor Xavier to die. As usual, some of the mutants return to their usual kick-ass fighting scenes like Magneto and Wolverine.

To top it up, I'll give this show a B.

KIller Systems!!!!

OK, people when I say killer systems here,it is not like one of those killer systems that you constantly face in med school ( ok for some, but not the traditional ones).

So if you guys are still scratching your heads, then let me give you a hint...it's to do with the PC, still dunno...ok...next hint...Personal Computer...rings a bell?? NO?? OMG....ok watever.

What you are about to see in the next few lines, maybe entirely geekspeak to you, but take note if you have an insane spending habit especially on gadgets, deep pockets and a crazzzzzy obsesssssssion for the besssssssst and the mosssssssst advance of computer, be it software or hardware and also... if you are a HARDCORE GAMER, read on. Otherwise please redirect your browser somewhere else....

Why am I doing this,errr..it's juz for fun(Take note everything down there is top notch and one of the best.)

OK for starters, to buy a killer system in Malaysia packaged into one very complete combo of juicy and cool stuff is extremely rare. Take a look at Dell, and chances are most of the required hardware will be there, but unfortunately there seems to be a bit of problem with the CPU category, somehow strangely limiting its customers to select only the 930 dual core processor but with more flexibility on the the other hardware like memory, monitor and hard drive. Take note I've not done much research on other companies and so now I shall move on to clone coms, where the beautiful Low Yat Plaza beckons and also the old albeit well equipped Imbi Plaza.

CPUS

AMD
Athlon 64 X2 FX-60 Socket 939
Intel
Intel Pentium D Processor Extreme Edition 965 3.73ghz

Powersupply

at least 600 watt

Motherboard

Asus A8N-SLi Premium

CPU Cooler

Zalman(This is a definite must...Without it it would be a total system meltdown.)

Memory

Corsair 2GB TwinX DDR2 6400 or 4gb DDR2 SDRam at 667 mhz( only Corsair if you're talking high end systems, NOTHING LESS.....!!!)

Video Card

Nvidia
Dual 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 7900 GTX - SLI Enable
ATI
ATI X1900XTX & X1900XT Crossfire 512 MB(2 cards for your info)

Monitor
So with that kind of 3d card even a 30" monitor is possible but that depends on how big and strong your table is and if you don't mind staring into a "TV", then splash more on a 30" LCD monitor like DELL's 30" monitor OR go for something more modest like a
19"/20" LCD monitor by Samsung, or LG.

Hard Drive

Option 1
Western Digital/Seagate/MAxtor 250GB 16mb cache( definitely ample space for the rest of your computer days...if not go to option 2)
Option 2
Get RAID
and get 2 Seagate / MAxtor/western Digital 400GB 16mb cache

Optical Drive
Option 1
Get a single 16x dvd rom drive or
Option 2
Get a dual layer DVD+-/RW or (if DVD is too big then go option 3)
Option 3
Get a CD RW la.....eeesh

Sound Card
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro 7.1
or
Creative Sound Blaster X-FI Platinum 7.1

Keyboard and Mouse
Anything unless you are a gamer,so it's either an optical or gaming mouse/keyboard.

Speakers
Either a Creative Labs 5.1 speaker/7.1 speaker or
Logitech Z5450 5.1 speaker or
Altec Lansing

Accessories
Surge protector, Hubs, Routers.

So what does this all add up to, well get ready....if you are willing to pay, then make sure your bank account has about RM20000. Yup that's right it's roughly there + some obvious software included like Windows XP SP2 installed already included and maybe Microsoft 2003 bundled together. If you are insane enough to get the
30 inch LCD monitor, then it would be about RM23000-25000. IF YOU GUYS HAVE NOT LOST YOU WAY DIGESTING THE INFORMATION, THEN LET ME SAY THIS....ARE YOU WILLING TO PAY THAT KIND OF MONEY FOR A PC, ahem OR SAY....a new car like a KANCIL?? OR DO YOU THINK IT'S BETTER OFF SPENT FOR CHARITY....???

It's only the beginning...

After joining the acapella group, The Wicked Pitches, coupled with the fact that a performance in the coming months struck me as to how burdening the workload will become. I got a shock when they said that 18 songs weren't enuf...I was like SHIT...and all of them needs to be memorized so after a brief discussion that day, it was decided at least 25 songs. So I've been wandering as if 9 systems, OSCE, OSPE isn't enough yet, another 25 songs have to be in my head at that same time. Could my synapses and neurons handle it? Or is some spontaneous synaptic connection forming? I sure hope it would be the latter.

But anyway, I couldn't care less, nothings gonna stop me. I've given it a thought and even they themselves wandered whether that I could handle it. My answer was a firm YES. And the quality of being firm is itself a virtue as Confucius rightly says so, "The firm, the enduring, the simple, and the modest are near to virtue."

As of now, the songs I've become familiarized to are:

  1. BourrÄ—e for Bach
  2. Smoke gets in your eyes
  3. William Tell Overture
  4. I'll be there
PLUS

an additional 3 scores which I just got

  1. You raise me up
  2. Moondance
  3. Loch Lomond

The 2006 American Idol

A Spellbinding Finale

OOOH....The American Idol Finals is hours away, today's performance was good but not their best. Katharine seems to be rather nervous today but she did well.. in fact she faired better in her first two songs which she had sung before and the 2nd song was just wonderful, undescribable and beautifully executed. Taylor did his usual knee "herky jerky" dance routines and man....he's a performer. Everytime when he starts singing, especially fast songs, he manages to get everybody up on their feet and Paula would then be "invited" to dance along..

But I'll go for Taylor Hicks. He will be crowned the American Idol 2006!!..... Soul patrol!!!... Soul patrol!!!

But then again, the margin would be so close. Last week's results was so close that it was almost equally divided among the 3 contestants. Check this out

  1. 33.68%
  2. 33.26%
  3. 33.06%
How unfair....Elliot's booting from the competition was decided my a mere 0.2% difference. and 0.2% x 50 million ppl would be about 100k PEOPLE DIFFERENCE.

And so in a number of hours, in Los Angeles, at the Kodak Theatre, the results will be revealed and the winner Taylor Hicks will be celebrated by crowds cheering, a standing ovation, and many hugs and kisses all to the dismay of Katharine fans who will.... certainly burn up with McPheever.
(hahaha)

So is it Katharine or Taylor....??

Will it be Taylor's consistency or Katharine "moments"? OR Will it be Taylor's Southern Country boy charisma or city girl Katharine's vocals?

THE TRUTH WILL BE REVEALED IN A FEW HOURS......

Return of the Indolent Syndrome

This week has been pretty hellish for me, especially since Thursday and so, have been really lazy lately to blogg.. quite a long time since I take more than 1 week for every subsequent post. Really busy and the beginning of repro system hasn't been all too kind either. CSU 1 on the first day and some real nasty bombing by some weirdo CSU guy, whose hair is Taylorish gray... and strangely with features of pseudoacromegalic syndrome... IT was the worst history taking ever in the history of IMU. Even if Francis was there, I would be more comfortable. ALL of us in the room don't even know a theeny weeny thing about repro and there you go... this ass sitting there asking us to do a proper history, ask more relevant questions on endometriosis and blah blah blah.... we were like HUH?? Wat?

So picture the scenario, after a few questions.....dead silence...and then ask again...then stuck...then wait a few minutes (which seems like an eternity). All this, for an agonising one and a half hours. Looks like SRC needs to smite that, whoever it is, SEM 4 REPRO COORDINATOR to do a proper schedule for IMU students. (FOR ALL YOU NEW SRC COMMITEE MEMBERS, DO YOUR FREAKING JOB PROPERLY.....!!!)

Tuesday was another heavy day. First thing in the morning, we had to go all the way to Pajam, some strange, never heard before clinic, which happens to be a rather old, wooden Klinik Desa, single storey but fortunately a very well maintained clinic thanks to two very amazing nurses. We left IMU at about 7.40, reach there about 8.15. Honestly, this clinic visit wasn't all too bad, but my energy levels on that day was somewhere between the yellow and red bar. Despite this, manage to assess Hb Levels, abdominal palpation, learn something on clerking, listening for fetal heart sounds, and a very good briefing session by the senior nurse in charge on antenatal care, post natal care and vaccination. I think by far, the most fruitful and productive clinic visit in IMU history. AND THE AMAZING THING WAS, WE DID NOT EVEN TAKE A BREAK IN BETWEEN, no teh tarik at 10 in the morning(which is common practice in all the other previous clinic visits.) and practically every minute was well spend doing something there or probably listening to something all the way until about 12.00pm.

Thank God Wednesday, was a rest day for me. Just the usual two lectures at 4.15 and Thursday was also the same but the adventure began after that. Had to go to some place in Damansara. For those who don't know the area, it is somewhere around IKEA and 1 utama. And Damansara wasn't even specific enough to tell me where I was actually going on that day. Fortunately Coleen did a pretty good job telling where the address is. And with a little trial and error, manage to find this obscure place call Damansara Perdana. When I reach there, it was like....shit...this is a new area. Where the heck is this place? AND THERE WERE SO MANY CONDOS. And I had to find hers among the maze of shophouses and other condos... Finally, to cut a long story short, manage to find her place and the meeting place of the Wicked Pitches. It was a long night and with a lot of lengthy discussion stretching until about 11+ . Then, drove back home and it was already 12. After that, it was snacks and sleep.

Friday, was ok actually. And CSS members manage to meet up with some missionaries who were on a pit stop in KL. It was pretty interesting to hear how these very young American people decided to walk the life of a missionary and relate their experiences since they started. One of them was even a former drug addict, came from a pretty screwed up Catholic family and was some high school dropout, but God called him to be a missionary. One dropped out of school and entered the seminary but after two years in there, God told him, " Look kid, this is not the place for you." and so he left and he begin his journey as a missionary, bringing him to mental hospitals, many places around the world and also many Catholics, who don't have a good grasp about their faith.. So actually these missionaries are on foreign missions. A few Fillipinos, among their group were actually on their first foreign mission trip.

At night, it was the 8th Chinese Singing Competition. The guy emcee was a bit syok sendiri and lame, but the overall performance was not bad. IT was sooooooooooo funny.... to see the trio of Stephen, Ding and Chun Peng together. I was like laughing my heads off seeing them together. There were wearing something similar to the KFC uniform but with two straps from the shoulder to their belt. And Stephen's strap snapped so it made him look like he had a tail..... LOL. And it happened before they started singing, so while there were moving about and dancing, it looked like Stephen was waggin' his "tail".HAHA...After their performance, the whole audi trembled like HOWWWWWAAAAARRRRRAAWWAAAAAA!!!! with everybody cheering for them. A truly entertaining, humorous and funny bunch which led them to not one but TWO awards for the day.....Best Group and Most Popular Award. Our second trio group also did quite well. Again, there were lots of cheers from the crowd.

Solo performance by my standards were mediocre but the pharmacy girl was good vocally and the Jay Chou impersonator was soooo terrible.... I dunno whether he was trying to be like Jay or himself. He now takes over as the worst hairdo ever, Chia ling came up with that..HIFI MAN.. It was sooo bad it looked like he had a janggut from the back....I dunno whether he was dyeing his hair with both eyes close ..... or wat? And he can't even come close to singing Jay Chou song, ok maybe the rapping part, but it was sooooo muffled, I think Jay Chou would cry seeing this.....SOB SOB. WHAT A DISGRACE... I don't understand how could he have won the 3rd price for solo performance, maybe because of his unique style and performance. 2nd price boy did quite well.. he did quite well on the teresa teng song. His singing was also quite good. BUT SEM5s have to choooose better songs to sing. I think Shawn has so much potential, but he chose a crap song so you can't really assess his vocal prowess....

Saturday was also an extremely long day. IT started early but ended early. Luckily I took an early nap. HAd to play for church so when I reach church it was already too late to find a place to park my car and why?? Father OC's mother's funeral. It drew quite a number of people. There were like 20 priests, 2 bishops and 1 archbishop there. IT was a pretty big thing. IT even came out in the newspaper... If you see it, its this big picture of an aunty with sunglasses. AHAAA... and she passes away at 89 yrs of age. So when I reached the cabin, only Patrick and Jeff was there, I thought am I way too early or is it only three of us?? Elaine came later and it was a mass of nice slow music but the last hymn was fast..."King of MAjesty" And for the first time, I cantored today in LifeTeen mass...wwooooohoooooooooo. BUt I think some of us were a bit soft, but anywayz hopefully next week, it's gonna be drums, bass, additional vocals, guitar(me) and nice music.

And Sheena's back here.....YEAH!!!! Spotted her in a black shirt, with a new pair of black glasses at mass. It was nice to see here again after so long. And from what I've heard she missed KL a lot, not because KL is happening but her buddies are all here. So she has one more week here before leaving for Miri.... C u around!!

The Final 3

American Idol music plays in the background

Ryan: "Welcome to American Idol. I'm Ryan Seacrest. Tonight the results............ Who will go home tonight and would continue in the running for the Top 3 Finals...... I'm sure all four of you are anxious to know what are the results....."( not exact.)

After going through a medley of songs, and after many "We'll be right back after this/the break", it was finally decided.

Now comes the moment.......of truth

2 groups of two stand side by side Ryan. Then Ryan asked,

Ryan: "Simon, who would go home tonight?"
Simon: "Are you asking based on yesterday's performance?" Well, based on last night's performance, I think Katharine is going home tonight.( Katharine reacts with a rather reticent look)

From the crowd......BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Ryan: "I have Elliot and Taylor on my right and Chris and Kat on my left. Elliot and Taylor, you are both save." (A dumbstruck look showed upon the faces of chris and katharine, even the judges.....) America, this is your bottom two as you voted." So many of you predicted that both of you would be the final two, but yet this are the results. AMERICA YOU VOTED...."

Results Revealed

Ryan: "Chris, you are going home tonight." ( Awww, OOOO, BOOO, Disbelieving looks...Chris was quite shocked. Kat was like... mouth open..... )Hugssszz.... and a final performance from Chris.

And so it was, 2 guys and a girl and a FINAL coming up.....LOlz my prediction was right....Hmmm who would it be next, I think Taylor, would stay until at least until the final two. Not sure about the other two.

Anyway Chris, you rock man. REMEMBER YOUR JOURNEY DOESN'T END.....

The 4 Idols

Now don't get me wrong here. It's not some form of religious worship nor is it some story. What I am saying here is actually referring to the remaining 4 contestants who have stand out amongst the 12 finalists in the American Idol 5. I have to say that this time round, this group of talented people proofed to be the most entertaining batch of all finalists seen since the reality show started. And now, with the remaining final four, I would choose to say that all of them are already winners, each having their own style, their own genre of music and performances. IN fact, I believe that all of them can already start making their albums without waiting for America to decide on May 29.

Watching yesterday's performance certainly was indeed an awe inspiring performance though there were some moments of blunder like forgotten lyrics, pitchy singing.... but what the heck, even music geniuses have their day off and not all their songs are groovy, catchy or could transform an old grandma with arthritis/osteoporosis to suddenly start jumping off the couch and sing with them.

So the verdict for yesterday's performance would be a 9/10. To tell the truth I really don't know for sure who would go out tonight. Elliot came out pretty strong last night, much better than last week. Elliot was really good in his second song, "Trouble". It was like the bomb for the night.

Recall Randy

"You're the bomb tonight" or "You're in your element dude. Keep going. I absolutely love it." or
"Check it out. Your the dawgggg.."

Chris as usual defied conventional styles of singing and added his own flavour to each music that he performed, much to Simon's dismay. But lately, the ocassionally foul-mouth dude seem to give in to Chris ways. But his rendition of "Suspicious Minds" seems to be a bit too low for him. It would be better if he started it a tone higher.

Taylor was the bomb man....He was totally in the music. His 1st song "Jailhouse Rock" was one of my personal favourite for the night. As usual, he danced and moved and groove and rock it all out. And Simon who seems to have been annoyed with all his moves and dance always discredit him.

"That's because you can't dance you loser......!!!" And stop giving comments like

Simon: " Too karaoke with a capital K" and "too cabaret" "THE DANCE WAS LOUSY" ....."You know in the real world...."

(Ryan interrupted)

Ryan: " Do you live in the real world??"

That being said:

CAN WE HEAR A BOO FOR SIMON.....
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Strangely he din say all that when he sang "In the ghetto"...... I guess he just can't stand others being more graceful than he is safe for his gracefulness while criticising others.... I think you should thank urself for insuring your mouth for US1million....

Anywayz, the only time where I feel his comments hit the spot was when Katharine performed her second song. I thought she started off well and then her notes were a bit shaky later on towards the end. Hmmm, maybe too much rehearsal for the BIG NITE. Her first song wwas also one of my personal favourite for the nite..

So my personal favourite for the night:
a) Jailhouse Rock - Taylor Hicks
b) Trouble - Elliot Yamin
c) Hound Dog - Katharine McPhee

I think Chris would go out tonight.... Sorry to say this guys but I got a hunch...man. If i were allowed to vote, I would have stopped voting for Chris 3 weeks ago. It's undeniable that Chris is talented, musical and I especially love his raspy voice but sorry...man. NO HARD FEELINGS

OK NOW LET'S GO SEE THE RESULTS.......

KKB recap

I bet this time we must have set a record on having the least number of people sitting the bus going there and coming back. A total of 4 people sat the bus to KKB and 3 came back by bus.

Now why the miserable amount??

ANS: Everybody decided to come later during the day and some came the next day.

So what happened in KKB?

Undertook mahjong classes from the pros, Ryan and Vee Han. Haha, now I know quite a bit to play mahjong and the champion is Vee Han who earned some 20 bucks... while Ryan was the poor loser. Hendrick played later and wasn't too bad. The Hendrick and ChiaLing combo did win something anyway and Ryan was cursing me for his loss.

OH yaa. that reminds me...Something unfortunate happened to Vee Han and Ryan on Friday.

They lost their house keys as in POOOF!!... VANISHED and the bummer was that they had to pay 200 bucks for the keys. They then went into some frantic search for the keys ransacking everybody's house, the girl's house, their bags and our house which was inhabited by me, wiliam, kok fong and hendrick. After all that search, they still couldn't find it.Ryan went into some sort of rage and was like demanding the keys from me. I was like huh??? I din take your damn keys..... But anyway, he came and search my bags and everyone else's bags and his obvious look of disbelieve left him somewhat dumbfounded. I HAVE NO ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHY HE WAS SO SURE THAT I TOOK THE KEYS. But anyway, he started blaming me for his "mysterious" mahjong blunder and that night when we played mafia for three times in a row, I was murdered thanks to RYAN.KKB clinic rounds weren't that interesting. !st day, got a diabetic case. That dude had an ulcer in his right foot. Since mine was the only endocrine case for the day, I presented my case to DR. Sevu and I should definitely give credit to Dr. Sevu for his experience and his extensive knowledge. He could go on non-stop asking questions and answering them and also discussing diabetes for 1 hour in a very interesting manner. I think he should lecture in IMU.

There were three highlights in KKB...ONLY....SADLY..

  1. We found a very special baby in Ward 7 which was actually the paediatric ward. The baby is so fair and has such nice features. ( I even thought that this was some kwai lo baby until I check the eyes.) and sadly he was abandoned. The baby has a deformed right hand. The wrist bones are all there but anything beyond that did not form properly. The baby also was diagnosed with lobar pneumonia. The acting mum is set to send the baby for adoption and according to her a couple from Cheras was ready to accept the baby. The "mum' herself has actually safed a couple of babies who were abandoned in seemingly unforgivable conditions like dumpsters, drains and this time some garden. WOW.... talk about a baby saver...What an opportunity to meet one..
  2. On Monday, got the rare opportunity to interview a lady with twins!! Even DR. Sasi said that she rarely comes across twin pregnancies in KKB. So we interviewed her, and apparently she wasn't there to deliver but because of "spotting" and she's in her 32/52 week of gestation. That is actually her first pregnancy. Besides clerking, we got to assess the fundal height which was 36 cm more than the normal range which was in her case 30-34 cm. So then we went through some explanatory talk on the basis of the difference. This was because of the twin pregnancy. We even manage to auscualtate the twin's heart beat which was extremely soft, so hard to hear that only pin drop silence confirmed their heart beating. DR. Sasi then use something call Daptone, some ultrasound device to amplify the heart beats......dup dup dup dup at abt 160/min. After all tat, we managed to palpate the abdomen to determine what we could find.....IT was indeed a good experience.
  3. The last one was indeed a "last minute" highlight. A premature baby had muconeum in the respiratory tract and was struggling to survive. The PaO2 was at about 60+ went we saw the baby, and the nurse was busy trying to ventilate the baby. A referral was made to transfer the baby to Hospital Selayang, but unfortunately they didn't want to accept because they might just waste using a ventilator on a baby whose chances of survival are slim versus a baby who has a better of chance if the situation warrants one. But anyway, later on the baby's PaO2 went up to about 90. I dunno what happened next but prayed the baby survive.

Happy Mother's Day

THIS IS FOR YOU MUM

From the day we're born
She showers us with love
From the moment we started learning
She dedicates to us tirelessly

She nags when we disobey
But always prefers the carrot to the stick
She cries when we rebel
But shed tears of relief when we change

Life is tough, Life is difficult
But you calm the storm
Life is beautiful, Life is amazing
But never the same without you

She comforts when we're sad
She encourages when we're down
She rejoices in our success
She reassures when we're doubtful

I would not care if the sun never shines again
Nor if the winds withers
Nor if the trees are no longer green
Nor if the seas become dead
As long as mum remains to stay

Once again, from your son, I wish you a wonderful and blessed Happy Mother's Day.

Fact or Farce: The Da Vinci Code Revealed

Everybody loves conspiracy and if mixed with a cocktail of mystery, religion, secret society and even romance all compiled in abook, it becomes a page-turning, tantalizing, compelling, exciting, thrilling adventure of discovery into the unknown. I remember reading this book, and it took me 2 days to finish it, and that is like my best personal record. I was quite literally hook to the twists and turns in which Dan brown so cleverly led his readers from one discovery to another embroidered with even more questions.

I would not know whether he is a naturally good writer, but as I said if all the elements are blended together in a harmonious fashion , striking a balance with each other, it would not matter if the author is a darn good writer or just an amateur novelist....AND compunded with what Dan Brown justifies as true, it could even penetrate into your subconscious so that one may even begin to doubt their own beliefs and their own facts. Non Christians may choose to believe what the book says but even now some Christians are beginning to question their faith. This begs the question of how firmly rooted are Christians in our own teachings and own beliefs. Then, we begin to think hmmm. "The truth is out there" so what about the truth we have been taught and brought up with all this while.

SO KUDOS to Dan Brown for sparking a controversy over the Catholic Faith and Christians around the world. But unfortunately your half-baked story and so-called veracious claims and also a tinge of plagiarism has now been unraveled. And though you sold 40 million copies of your silly ass book, I think you should go back to school and understand the MEANING OF THE WORD: FACTS

At the bottom are some clarifications on Mr. Dan Brown's so-called facts. This is taken from an excerpt at the website The Da Vinci Decoder-The Catholic Answer.
by Carl Olsen and Sandra Miesel.

but before that let's quote Dan Brown

"All descriptions of artwork, architecture, documents and secret rituals in this novel are accurate."

The Code’s Controversial Claims

The Da Vinci Code begins with a murder in the Louvre in Paris. American Robert Langdon, an expert in religious and esoteric symbolism, is asked to help interpret a cipher left on the victim’s body. Langdon is joined by a cryptologist, Sophie Neveu. They quickly become suspects in the case and must flee from authorities.

While escaping and seeking to solve the murder, they ally themselves with wealthy historian and Holy Grail fanatic Leigh Teabing. Chased by authorities, they travel from Paris to London in search of answers. Woven throughout are lectures by Langdon and Teabing about the identity of the Holy Grail, Leonardo Da Vinci and The Last Supper, and the "truth" about Jesus and the Catholic Church. The novel ends with Langdon having an epiphany at the supposed burial place of Mary Magdalene.

Mary is a central character in the novel—not the Mary Magdalene of the Bible, but the one of feminist mythology. She is depicted as Jesus’ head apostle, His wife, and the mother of His children. She is also, Brown writes, the real "Holy Grail." Readers are informed that all of this has been kept hidden by the Catholic Church, often by force and violence.

Other big claims: No one believed that Jesus was God prior to the Council of Nicaea in 325, Constantine created Christianity out of pagan myths, there are other "gospels" that are just as authentic as the four canonical Gospels, and Leonardo Da Vinci’s artwork contains messages about Jesus and Mary Magdalene.

Jesus and Mary Magdalene

The belief in Jesus’ marriage to Mary Magdalene has been popular in feminist circles for several decades. It forms a central part of a strategy to undermine Church teaching about priestly celibacy and women’s ordination.

In The Da Vinci Code, historian Teabing declares: "Jesus was the original feminist. He intended for the future of His Church to be in the hands of Mary Magdalene" (p. 248). He proclaims that this—and Jesus’ supposed marriage to Mary Magdalene—is "the greatest cover-up in human history" (p. 249). He also states that "the marriage of Jesus and Mary Magdalene is part of the historical record" (p. 245).

Just exactly which "historical record" is he talking about? The Gospels never even hint that Jesus was married or had a romantic relationship. The "evidence" for this claim is based instead on heretical, Gnostic works written one hundred to three hundred years after the Gospels were written. Those texts are notorious for being unhistorical, spurious, and filled with bizarre beliefs that have little in common with the beliefs of early Christians.

Some feminist scholars are among the few who think those late Gnostic texts are as reliable as the accounts written within thirty to fifty years of Jesus’ ascension, while many of the Apostles still lived. For them, Mary Magdalene represents the "sacred feminine" opposed to chauvinism and male power. "Mary Magdalene," journalist Kenneth Woodward explains, "has become a project for a certain kind of ideologically committed feminist scholarship."

Jesus: Mere Mortal or God-Man?

Teabing insists that until the Council of Nicaea in A.D. 325, "Jesus was viewed by His followers as a mortal prophet … a great and powerful man, but a man nonetheless. A mortal." He adds: "Jesus’ establishment as "the Son of God" was officially proposed and voted on by the Council of Nicaea" (p. 233).

This is clearly false. The New Testament and the writings of the early Church fathers show that Jesus’ first followers believed He was somehow divine—not merely mortal. Patristics scholar J.N.D. Kelly sums up this fact, writing that "the all-but-universal Christian conviction in the [centuries prior to Nicaea] had been that Jesus Christ was divine as well as human. The most primitive confession had been "Jesus is Lord" [Rom 10:9; Phil 2:11], and its import had been elaborated and deepened in the apostolic age." [J.N.D. Kelly, Early Christian Doctrines, rev. ed. (San Francisco: Harper & Row, 1978, 138.]

John’s Gospel contains strong statements about the divinity of Jesus, including its famous Prologue (Jn 1:1-3) and this statement: "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father" (Jn 1:14). After upsetting authorities because of His activities on the Sabbath, John reports, Jesus was threatened "because He not only broke the sabbath but also called God His Father, making Himself equal with God" (Jn 5:18).

In the eighth chapter Jesus declares, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am" (v. 58), an overt reference to the name by which God had revealed Himself to Moses in the burning bush (Ex 3:14). Similar declarations are made by Paul and other New Testament writers (cf., 1 Cor. 12:3; Phil. 2:6; 1 Tim. 3:15-16; Rev. 1:17; 22:13).

In the same way, the early Church fathers wrote often of the divinity of Jesus. St. Ignatius of Antioch (died about 110) described Jesus Christ as "our God" (Letter to the Ephesians,18) and "the Christ God" (Letter to the Smyrnaeans, 10). St. Justin Martyr tells his readers: "If you had understood what has been written by the prophets, you would not have denied that He was God, Son of the only, unbegotten, unutterable God" (Dialogue with Trypho,126). Similar statements abound prior to the fourth century.

An influential heretic priest of that period, Arius (c. 250–c. 356) believed that Jesus was the Son of God, but he thought that the Son was not coequal with the Father. So the main issue at Nicaea, which was called to address the Arian heresy, was not whether Jesus is divine. The issue was rather what kind of divinity He is and what His relationship is with the Father. If that’s the case, are we to believe that Christians who had been severely persecuted for holding fast to their faith in Jesus would meekly allow Constantine to change such an essential feature of their doctrine?

Paganism and Catholicism

The Da Vinci Code says that Catholic beliefs in the divinity of Jesus, the Resurrection, and the Eucharist are "vestiges of pagan religion" taken from ancient pagans. This faulty idea first originated in the 1800s, was thoroughly debunked in the early-to-mid-1900s, but lives on in anti-Christian pseudo-scholarship.

Superficial similarities exist between Christianity and some ancient pagan religions. But careful study reveals that there are far more dissimilarities. In addition, pagan beliefs from the third and fourth century A.D. are often read back into pre-Christian religions with little concern for exact dating or what the evidence allows. There are also many cases of falsification and sloppiness in the book’s claims about this subject.

For example, Teabing claims that "the newborn Krishna was presented with gold, frankincense, and myrrh," and that Christians stole this detail for their own use. This "fact" has been around since Kersey Graves’ The World’s Sixteen Crucified Saviors, published in 1875. Graves makes this assertion, but provides no sources or citations and has been discredited by scholars. In fact, the Bhagavad-Gita, a first-century A.D. Hindu text that is central to the Krishna religious tradition, doesn’t mention Krishna’s childhood. And the stories of Krishna’s childhood recorded in the Harivamsa Purana (c. A.D. 300) and the Bhagavata Purana (c. A.D. 800-900) don’t mention gifts at all. Even if they did, these latter works were written after the first century, making Graves’ claim absurd.

More Irresponsible Fictions

Other fallacies abound in The Da Vinci Code. Brown writes that Leonardo da Vinci was a "flamboyant homosexual" who accepted "hundreds of lucrative Vatican commissions." Leonardo may have been homosexual, but not "flamboyant." He produced few pieces of art, and he received just one Vatican commission.

Brown insists that Da Vinci’s The Last Supper depicts Mary Magdalene, not the Apostle John, to the right of Jesus. No reputable art scholar agrees; the teenager John is depicted in the rather effeminate manner of Leonardo’s time. And, if John isn’t in the painting, where is he? As one of the Twelve Apostles, he would certainly not have been left out of such a painting by the artist.

The novel also claims that "the Church burned at the stake an astounding five million women" (p. 125). Actually, the number of people (both men and women) executed between 1400-1800 for suspected witchcraft was about 30,000 to 80,000. Not all were women, many were executed by the State, and a large number were killed by Protestants.

The Da Vinci Code
packs in many other anti-Catholic fictions. But the novel’s "remarkable revelations" about the Church and historical events are mostly tired cliches borrowed from sources (such as 1982’s Holy Blood, Holy Grail, by Michael Baigent) that no genuine scholar takes seriously. A work of historical revisionism, the Code relies on a clever mixture of paranoia, outlandish story lines, anti-Catholicism, and trendy relativism.

Brown has discovered a winning recipe: Attack the Church, misrepresent history, add mystery and romance, stir up controversy, and produce a half-baked story. Sadly, the truth has been left out of the mix, and the final product is not fit for consumption—either by Catholics or anyone else.

"Facts" about the Priory of Sion.

According to the "fact" page, the Priory of Sion - a European secret society founded in 1099 is a real organization. In 1975, Paris Bibliotheque Nationale discovered parchments known as Les Dossiers Secretes, identifying numerous members of the Priory Of Sion, including Sir Isaac Newton, Boticelli, Victor Hugo and Leonardo da Vinci

Facts about the Priory of Sion

The Priory of Sion was a club founded in 1956 by four young Frenchmen. Two of its members were Andre Bonhomme and Pierre Plantard. The group's name is based on a local mountain in France, not Mount Zion in Jerusalem. It has no connection with the Crusader, the Templars, or a previous movements incorporating "Sion" into their names.

The organization broke up after a short time, but in later years, Pierre Plantard revived it, claimed he was the "Grand Master" or leader of the organization, and begin making outrageous claims regarding its antiquity, prior membership and true purposes. It was he who claimed that the organization stemmed form the Crusades, he who composed and salted Les Dossiers in the Bibliotheque Nationale, and he who created the story that the organization was guarding a secret royal bloodline that could one day return to political power.

But after, Pierre's claims came to public attention, his former associates contradicted him. In a 1996 statement mede to the BBc by the Priory of Sion's original president. Andre Bohemme stated,"The Priory of Sion does not exist anymore. we were never involved in any activities of a political nature. It was four friends who came together to have fun. We called ourselves The Priory of Sion because there was a mountain by the same name close-by. I haven't see Pierre Plantard in over twenty years and I don't know what he's up to but he always had a great imagination. I don't know why people try to make such a big thing out of nothing. "
