Wicked Pitches - The Next Level

After going through so many weeks of rehearsing our songs that we will be singing in KLPac, we are now finally entering into the next phase, staging which is really new to me. I know next to nothing about staging, maybe a tiny little bit attributed to what Michael Voon introduced about a month plus ago.

In fact, I quite enjoyed the staging part cause it teaches each indvidual to be aware of other performers in the group so the whole group/team can perform more like a single unit. Not just a one man show while the rest go about doing their stuff. In fact staging is something like telling a story so that the entire performance would not be just mundane singing throughout the performance. Try imagining an a capella group singing 2 hours without any thing goin on in between... too monotonous. OK, I'm not a pro when it comes to talking about staging but basically it make the entire performance would be more engaging and more interesting. It's like telling a story based on the lyrics of a song or the style of a cetain type of music.

One of the most interesting things that I've learn from our staging guru Sam, is that we use to take for granted on how we walk and the way our muscles synergistic interaction result in a certain type of movement. Actually, talking about walking, I actually feel surprisingly unstable while walking very slowly especially, the muscles at the lower leg..feels wobbly even after walking for 20 years.... But after going through the exercises that Sam taught us, particularly the one where he asked us to stand 15 minutes, lifting the soles of your feet just enough for one sheet of paper to pass through. It really helps to establish the more grounded feel, even when i try balancing myself with one leg.

Actually talkin about staging, I've never done staging before. I really hope that this exercise can remove all my stiff muscles which has been a great problem especially when it comes to meeting lots of people in front of me....something like stage fright syndrome.... and in particular this one where about 500 ppl would be looking at me for 5 straight days.

Broken Bridges

OH yessss......this is the first time watching any local theatre production , purely Malaysian and also "me" first time going to KLPac.

Actually, I didn't expect to watch the musical at all, but thanks to Mimi, JP, and Cheryl and the 50% discount courtesy of Coleen, I didn't miss the musical. I would say that the show was pretty darn good. Though, I've never watched any Malaysian made musical, it did impress me on a few areas..Actually, before, I deliver my constructive criticism, I would first like to talk about KLPac.

I always thought that KLPac is this huge place with beautiful art galleries decorated with beautiful drawings and frescoes plus exhibitions of upcoming and past performances together with some maybe very unique decoration to portray art at its finest and also not forgetting the stage and halls for performances... Not that the real thing did not have what I've just said but it's so small....I was like this is it, KLPac...???I'm sorry for my overly honest opinion because I expected it to be big cause it's in KL and it should have everything if not most of it. Maybe it's new and there might be plans to expand the area...and if there are such plans I'm sure there are ample spaces for it to be possible. (the park)

But anyway, interiorly, KLPac is nice, and Pentas 2 is very nicely designed and it gives this really cosy and comfy feeling but it gives me the jitters that I'm going to perform there in the next three months and the stage is so big!!! and almost 500 pairs of eyes looking at us.....

Broken Bridges is quite good actually, ok i'm saying this again... but this is what I felt about the whole musical as a whole...

Singing

The ensembles were not clear, and I can't really distinguish between who is singing what, and as much as I try to I couldn't cause I don't have bat ears...HAHA There was this one part, I think it was an argument scene, there's a mini ensemble and it started fine, but later on when more voices came in, I can't tell who's singing and I was tryling to filter the lyrics...but I juz don't have bat ears...HAHA

Singing wise, it could have been better, it wasn't bad but maybe the ensemble marred it a little bit.

Acting

I thought the acting was good, Ming was really convincing but Leong is a bit stiff, I feel that he should have at least move move of his hands instead of just talking while standing there with his hand by his side. Big Green Lady in cheongsam was really like some drama queen emphasizing every darn movement even eyebrows....and her sepet eyes... Generally, the acting was convincing enough for me to understand the flow of the story.

Musical Composition

Woo... I really love the composition. I think the guy who did it must be darn good. It was really appropriate for all the parts of the show. It did evoke the emotional feeling of sadness, happiness and also mischief. But I still have some personal favourties though...

So people, go see the freaking musical, and if you think that this so-called constructive criticisms did give you preconceived notions about the whole show, than don't read it. But if you somehow read it up to this line, than please still go see the show, because honestly it is quite good...see it and judge it for yourself...IT'S A MALAYSIAN PRODUCTION...SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL THEATRE PRODUCTION!!!

Busy Week..

Musculoskeletal system has been really tiring and this explains why I haven't had any time to blog and come on thursday for the usual singing practice at Coleen's place. The first day, was already demoralising and there was the dreaded anatomy which was saturating. Although Dr. Nilesh Kumar know a great deal about it, there was just too much to stuff in my freaking cerebrum..and he was only talking about bones in general, not even the ligaments, the tendons, muscles and on the first day itself there was also embryology which was ok but still after going through nearly 2 days of anatomy of the upper and lower limb, it makes me dread to open any anatomy book..I think this must be the heaviest first week of any system I have ever experienced and the fact that CNS is six weeks and the hardest of all isn't really encouraging..

I just don't understand why they have to cramp so many lectures in a week and space out our csu and pbl sessions so far apart...I NEED ANOTHER WEEK OF HOLIDAY!!!

MSK is now at our very new lecture hall which somehow appears small, too steep and the carpet seems to give an illusion that the stairs are at the same level which explains why Lina tripped, but luckily didn't fall backwards. Seats look nice but bad for our back, not comfy enough. but overall aesthetics is quite good. The central space allocated for presentation is very clear and big..Still prefer the old lecture theatre, though....

Finally after such a long time, I managed to see the T-shirt that I've designed not bad though, and hopefully more choir people buy it and I get my MONEY!!! CSS T-shirts look great but too bad the fonts are black, can't really see the words. Should be replaced with some bright colour though.

And Alex,(not WP one ah..)thanks for the load of junk you give me!!! it really rocks. Finally something to smile about...

OK got to go....

Birthday Celebrations

Just a few days back, we all celebrated not one, not two but four people's birthday which wasn't suppose to happen due to some very unusual events, letupan Mount Mei Fong.....or the eruption of Mount Mei Fong.

The entire plan was to celebrate a very early birthday bash for Ivan n Mei Fong, but stupid Ivan decided to blurt out the "cancel" word which inevitably led to Mei Fong's outburst on MSN who has a major paper on the next day. Me not knowing about the whole details of the incident was

So Calvin, Ivan and Jessica decided to go ahead with their plans without Mei Fong knowing, which actually wasn't suppose to happen because Ivan is not suppose to be celebrated and not do anything. Ivan decided to buy a present for Mei Fong to make up for his mistake the night before in MSN and the rest of them bought a cake for both of them written as "Ivan Choo Mei Fong". When I came along into the picture, it became some sort of mission to pujuk Mei Fong to celebrate her birthday because I'm one of those who haven't been roasted yet. To cut a long story short, if Mei Fong decides to join us, then we will have a birthday celebration or else we would eat the cake. We were all hoping for a happy ending instead of a sad/bad ending..... only enlightened chronoligically on the entire incident which led to the unexpected birthday bash cancellation. So by right, the entire thing should have been cancelled.

"Roasted Well Done Ivan"

"Mount Mei Fong"

Despite all that has happened, the whole thing "jadied", and we went ahead with the impromptu celebration at Red Antz (my recommendation). Surprisingly, Mei Fong was quite ok with the whole thing and maybe the exam must have done that. So all of us, the old gang, Calvin, Me, Jessica, Wen Ming and her sister, Wen Jing and birthday people Mei fong, Ivan had quite a wonderful time, thought feeling a bit weird when we had to sing " Happy Birthday..." then it became quite weird later when someone decided to ask those who were also younger then the rest of them which was me and Wen Jing, so we sang "Happy Birthday" again and cut and blow the cake AGAIN.... but we didn't eat the cake again because we were all full and I had to reserve some space for dinner.

So, it was an ending we had hoped for.... a Haaapppy Ending.... and Wen Ming, don't worry I will come join you all one for the Euro trip if got la.. even If I go study in Australia, just tell me when loh....if not come Australia la but don't ask me belanja you and the rest cause go Australia study already going to pokai, so if I belanja all of you plus all the boyfriends and girlfriends I lagi pokai....But see how first that time la k...

A Visual Feast!!!

This year's PC Fair has to be one of the best organized even when last year it was held in the same place, KLCC. Why would I say that?? That's because I think the venue is well-spaced out, not so cramped, more space to move and walk about and there are much more exhibition booths especially for the Big Boys but not in terms of price save for a few things which I would mention later. The moment we started our journey into this exhibiton we see INTEL...girls, girls and people, more people and Ryan. Mind you, the better looking girls are here until Hall 3. Once you step into Hall 4, you will notice that the environment changes and so does the girls.

Hey Ryan... I didn't know you are working there, giving out those mega Intel bags and flyers on the lastest Intel Core 2 Duo processor.
Ryan, the thorn among the roses......amongst all the chicks doing their boring, monotonous routine of giving out fliers.

Talking about The New Intel Core 2 Duo processors, there are awesome. The most powerful processor ever, Intel Core 2 Duo X6800/Extreme crushes...yeap and I mean that literally against the MOST powerful AMD processor, the AMD FX-62. If you happen to drop by Intel's booth, check out the video. Mind you, getting the Core 2 Extreme processor/AMD FX-62 would get you a very decent PC roughly at the price of 4k with Intel's chip a bit cheaper maybe bewteen the 3-4k range. But there is already a clear winner. Take a look at tomshardware's review on the ultimate battle for supremacy!!!

After Intel's booth, there was Toshiba, HP, Dell, Acer,Samsung, LG, Fujitec and all other big companies selling a whole lot of notebooks and desktops trying to outdo each other in the prices of their products. My verdict, Toshiba, Dell and Acer offer the best value for money, with almost the same pricing for identical specs. But it wasn't those Microsoft infested products which caught my attention. It was the girls handling the notebooks and standing there with their provocative pose, enticing looks and seducive smile. No of course not..NOT THAT!!!! Look Below..

It was my encounter with the Black MacBook Pro.

IT's sooo sexy....Too bad my financial department will be brought to its knees thanks to it's ridiculous price tag.

So that was in Hall 1.

Hall 2 is dedicated specifically to speaker systems. Everything from Sonic Gear to Creative. The hall is like some huge boom box.

Hall 3 beckons.... Similarly, the other Big Boys like Canon, Asus and Sony make their grand appearance here with Sony taking up a large portion of space. Took a look at the DSLR offered by Canon. Unfortunately, this is another one of those depressing moments where you can see, hold, admire but not buy. Their E-330, EOS 30D is a fine example of this situation.

Sony came next.... with their alpha DSLR making a grand debut, though it has been around for about a month. Not really a fan of their VAIO, prefer the Mac over them.

ASUS was the next big shot at the end of HAll 3, this year there was a display of all their motherboards and graphic cards. Even their ASUS Lamborghini VX-1 was on display.

ASUS Lamborghini VX1

AM2 Platform

Conroe Platform

Their new P5B motherboard and a host of other new mother boards to support the latest chips from Intel and AMD, supporting the new 965 socket and AM2 platform for Intel and AMD respectively.

Hall 4 was where I actually got something and this is where only two things are slightly cheaper. Pendrives and memory modules. Pendrives are just dirt cheap.... 1GB for only RM69 and Kingston is the cheapest of all the pendrive wholesalers.

There is a pretty interesting booth from PenDrive selling fruity flavoured pendrives + a free drink of the selected flavour.... Interesting... I remember them having the same concept last year but this year their booth is much more appealing in terms of aesthetics and it does give a good impression of a food stall rather then a shop selling pendrives only. Then I got another Kingston memory for my PC, 512 MB DDR400 for about RM185. Not bad considering that prices of this ancient memory will increase to RM200 soon...why??? BECAUSE IT'S ANCIENT...

Canon make their second debut in the "lower class" area after their "high class" debut. Corsair High Performance Memory had the most interesting booth there, with 2 Alienware computers at each corner of their booths. Not sure how Alienware got into Malaysia considering the fact that Alienware does not come to this part of the world. Things in this hall and the following hall were much more affordable and there were all sorts of stuff you can find here, DVD players, burners, pendrives, external HDs, printers, banners, booths, cameras, monitors and girls giving out fliers. Somehow towards the end, the girls were much better looking. Maybe it's a marketing strategy....

Alright I should stop babbling.

Gathering with exPM5 buddies

Every year since pursuing their medical degree in Ukraine, our gang of Pm5 buddies will meet up at roughly almost the same time before they leave which always seems too short despite their long 2 month holiday period. That is because everybody's timing is different. IMU medical students have their own schedule and when this Ukrainian fellas start to have long holidays, IMU medical students still need to drag their asses to study and memorize all the medical jargons and concepts and facts which seems neverending until they decide to give us a short break which is also like not a break.
TOO SHORT!!!

We met at RED BOX Sunway Pyramid, to have a good karaoke session which has become quite common in our everyday lepakking session back in those good old days. Sang for three hours starting from 12 until 3 and my voice started to go a bit hoarse at the end. The 12-3 session was the cheapest and each of us only needed to pay about RM9 with lunch provided. Almost sang non-stop. Thanks to the WP, the hoarseness wasn't as bad as it used to be back in the good old days at Taylor's College. Actually I'm quite surprised to see Kwong Yew. Hey Kwong Yew, HAPPY 21ST BIRTHDAY!!! All of us were quite semangated in the whole karaoke session. Calvin, Mei Fong, Jessica and Ivan the usual people were there belting out a variety of English, Mandarin and Malay songs. Hey Adrian, Welcome...Welcome...

Hey Calvin, nice one there doing the PCD "Don't Cha" and "Sway". Eh why din you dance la...oH yaa and the S.H.E song and Spice Girls... MeI Fong, how come never do any Jay Chou songs, I was like waiting for you to sing some of them....Why la sing Richard Marx songs and LOBO??? Jessica....the true Guang Liang fan, sang Tong Hua and what's the other song.... the video is so sad....Kwong Yew, hey nice one there doing the Matchbox 20 number "Unwell" and "If you're gone". You know I really want them to write a new album. Rob Thomas, please join back the group.

So after that, we went bowling. Calvin and Mei Fong are back for revenge after losing to our handicap group of me, Jessica and wen Ming, the other day and had to treat us Baskin Robbins... HAHAHA. hey Calvin and Mei Fong, thanks again. Somehow free ice-cream tastes so much better.

Good thing you didn't bet again if not four of us can have another good round of tasty Baskin Robbins ice-cream and Ivan... you're the bomb...even after 1 year not playing bowling and you still beat Calvin...sweet..Haha Calvin your group lost even with Kwong Yew in the group...HAHAHA And shut you mouth with that 95 level. Stop bragging about your 155 score. I'll be back Calvin...I'll be back.. Ivan congratulations with your amazing score 175. How the world did you move like a ballerina when you throw the ball in. There's some sort of pose there. I must learn that, so I can break the 200 barrier and Calvin...we shall have a rematch. NO more looking down at some 95 bullshit......

After everything, it was already almost 5pm. How time flies when we sing and have fun. But anyway, we had a great time and I'm sure you guys enjoyed it too. Hey Kwong Yew, nice meeting you after almost 2 years. You've hardly changed man.... Good luck on the rest of you in Ukraine. IT will be a very long time before I see all of you again.

America's Got Talent

Too bad the show started by American Idol judge, Simon Cowell who happens to be the executive producer here isn't aired in Malaysia but I guess that it wouldn't be as popular as the Idol show which has gathered some sort of a cult following around the world and sprouted into copycats of the show with the same idea/ concept in so many countries. Take our country as an example....Fly Idol...Digi Talent or whatever and etc. So the show is made up of three judges Pier, David Hasselhoff and Brandy with Regis as the host.

But anyway the show isn't all about singing only because the main idea of the reality series is to showcase your talent which is obviously not just singing. The show also has magicians, tricksters, tap dancers, juggling circus acts, acrobatic acts and weird stuff like using fingers as instruments and Mark da Knife. If you follow the highlights online, than you would know what I mean.

What really caught me about the show since it started were performances from At Last, an acappella group with a mixture of hip hop, beatbox and the old conventional acappella style. Talking about beatbox, this guys are just awesome doing the boop...doop....chea...da bum bum...da bum bum cha bum bum cha....ok watever... all with their mouths in their version of "Ain't No sunshine". I gotta learn that man....

Another pretty unusual performance is from Taylor Ware who is really impressive with her yodelling. I can't how believe how she would be able to learn yodelling from an instruction book after going through the whole thing after a few times and she's so darn young....

Muz be some talent...I hope she makes it to the finals and make more variations in her yodelling. I like her first yodelling the best.

Another one was an entire family of tap dancers who happens to be quite good in the violin playing and tapping at the same time. They are not tight enough in their rhythm, not sure why. Maybe it's a bit too complicated. Not too sure how far they will go but I like them. Alright, I didn't have time through other talents simply because there are so many of them and it's time consuming. So those are my shortlisted candidates for finals.

The other one was the Millers, they too are good but I really wander whether that dude with the harmonica can play as funky in songs other than their Sweet Home Alabama which was pretty impressive. Somehow, I feel that it's because of the harmonica that sets them apart from other bands in the competition.

My Fascination with Disney Songs......

I'm now listening and playing some very nice Disney Songs thanks to you ZAL!!! Thanks to you again....I'm back in touch with my child like side.... hahaha singing Disney songs is not childish people...it takes a lot to bring out the Disney oooomphh...!!! you know amidst all the PCD and other current genre of music.

This holiday, has really given me lots of time to mess with Disney music, singing it in rap and reggae style. Talking about reggae, some songs sounds really awful especially the slow ones like Go the Distance by Michael Bolton in Hercules and Something there from Beauty and the Beast. Rap was bad man....but jazz is really good, it gives a whole new feel to the song. I think I know what inspired me to play the piano and sing...it was the karaoke session that day at Nigel's place.

Zal... if you are reading this, I won't be giving you back the book anytime soon. Give me another week then I might consider returning the book to you. OH yaa... that 2nd book is urs..zal.. the 1st book is syok sendiri wan....

I like
  1. Beauty and the Beast
  2. Circle of Life
  3. Go the distance
  4. Be our guest
  5. A change in me
  6. Can you feel the love tonight
  7. Reflection
  8. Under the sea
  9. Something there
  10. A whole new world
  11. When she loved me
  12. True to your heart

Photography session with The WP

Yesterday was the photography session with The Wicked Pitches. I thought I was late cause what i understood was there was a barbeque before the photography session. So when I arrived there at about 9pm, I thought we are all set to go, and while I was walking to Nigel's house something smelled really good.... I thought oh wow.... must be really good food there, either that or there's too much food. So anyway, from the distance it smelled really nice. Too bad I don't have the capacity of a cow coz I just ate my dinner.

So it seems like they know everybody decides to come onli for the photography session so there push the barbeque session later so that we will eat the food...Juz a theory. OH..gosh I'm already digressing.

Actually the photography part was pretty interesting. I have absolutely no idea how he's going to do the light thingy in the photograph. When we took the photograph, all we did was took a first pose which was the ordinary picture pose and then followed bya second pose of your choice. The first pose wasn't much of a problem but the second was. If I could remember, I think after the 10th time we manage to get a really good shot. The way the shot taken was strange. First we pose, then he open the shutter, then use this annoyingly powerful flash light and then move on to the second pose and then using a torchlight to paint our second pose and we are no suppose to move at this time. Sounds confusing. NEVERMIND

The results were a bit bizarre, cos I've never seen any images taken like this before but then it turned out pretty good. It was quite a good experience for me since I'm a little bit into photography. The picture looks like a Normal picture. with so-called souls/spirits of ourselves at a different location from our original body. NO, the camera didn't cause our souls to leave our bodies but it was the second pose and the torchlight paint which created the seemingly ghostly effect. It's quite fascinating. I really wander what is this technique call....

Actually, I was waiting for the individual shot, cause I wanted to experiment with my second pose. Maybe make it funny, or weird, or aggressive like some wushu pose, but sadly the battery said, alright that's enough I'm done for the night, after a few individual shots + some nice foul words uttered by our photographer for not doing what is most important, charging the battery.... SO at the end, we had to wait another half an hour for the battery to gain some juice, before taking another group shot which has been decided to be the last and final shot for the night cause it was already fast approaching 12. SIGH.....

Apart from all this photography session, we had a really good time "karaokeing". That karaoke was the best karaoke I've ever been to cause the members are all wickedly good in singing...hahaha... and there was really a whole lot more enthusiasm. OF course man.... if not why would I want to join this group of fellas....a wickedly good choice...HAHAHA

DEATH THREAT!!!

Have you received any death threats before?? NO I din receive it and of course I don't want to!!!

ERm.... so who got it...??

Well a church friend of mine has been talking in great lengths about the Lina Joy case, he even posted the article that was supposed to be related, apparently article 11..ok..I know next to nothing about legal issues and law as a whole but this dude's blog really mentioned in detail about it. Not sure where he got it but it's there so go check it out...

SO what was the message about??

Alright the message can be found at his blog, book of john but if you are just too darn lazy to browse then let me spare you the clicks..The message is something like this:

"We're hunting you down!!! Make peace with your God and repent while you still have time...we know where you stay, where you study and which church you go to

You just wait and see

You'll wish you were not born.."

Seems pretty much like those cliche death threats but whatever it is, whether it is real or not it needs to be reported. If it's real, pray, be on the lookout, submit the entire msg and the sender's address, etc to the relevant authorities and. If it's not still send it to the authorities and pray.

But don't worry Celestine, you'll be fine. You are only speaking out for what's right and should be done. I'll pray for you.

OOH......so long time never blog..feels a bit stuck

OK, I realised that I haven't been blogging for a long time... feels really rusty now, like trying to open rusty squeaky doors... OK also realised that I haven't been talking much about my selective. BS selective is quite relaxing. All you need to do is to pick a behaviour that u want to change and then change it. SImple As tHAt!!

So that's what all those lectures are for. Using and applying the behavioural modification techniques to change a particular behaviour. OOH souns so jargonish. basically it means changing a behaviour.

BUT one thing I've learned from this entire selective is that behaviour is difficult to change and when I mean difficult, really difficult to change if you don't put your heart and mind into changing the behaviour. Mine was easy haha....and I making good progress. Definitely can reach my short term goal and hopefully remove the behaviour completely in the long run. The best thing about the whole selective was the group work, which was like the pinnacle of the entire selective. We were having problems at first trying to find out what we should do and then later Paul Jambu gave us an idea of a visit to a drug rehabilitation centre in OUG call Green Pastures which happens to supply some of IMU catering needs..AHAHAHAH BEWARE U FELLAS EATING IMU FOOD!! juz joking. actually I've interivewed them no additives added... And after all that we decided to come up with a great show since ours was a big group this slective, we definitely have enough people.

So after much discussion at McD in OUG plaza, WE FINALLY DECIDED THAT IT WOULD BE A TALK SHOW which turned out to be such an awesome show.

We call it "The Doprah Weedfree Show"

The title is in no way meant to insult the original talk show The Oprah Windfrey show, this was merely use as an idea to help us with our group work as you will understand if you read below.

so this was how it went....

Today is the final day of our BS selective which so far has been a very enlightening experience. Ours was the fourth group. And after seeing a few groups with videos, I knew that ours will ROCK...!! And Thank God it all went well, in fact everything was juz as planned. The timing was surprisingly good considering the fact that our rehearsal lasted two minutes longer. We definitely need to pat ourselves on th back after so many days of preparation, sleepness nights for the video crew and lengthy discussions in the PBL room. After many hours of video editing, brainstoming and script writing thanks to a very good director, we managed to pull off what I call the best show for the day. Sadly, we did not get the majority's votes to win the show WHICH I STRONGLY DISAGREE. Nevermind the fact that they are more humourous then all the other groups today but their content was not as complete as ours. Sadly, our video editor took it pretty hard (got really emotional about the results. )

Ours was the most content complete and entertaining. We don't need childish plays and kiddy jokes to tickle our funny bone. This is suppose to be drug addiction. How are we suppose to make a joke out of this. DON'T YOU THINK IT WILL BE INSULTING TO MAKE FUN OF THE WHOLE THING. It's all about delving into the character, asking questions to know what the addict is going through couple with all the elements of a good talk show. Anyone who watches Oprah Winfrey, would know how a talk show works. IT's not all fun and games except when she decides to give every single audience a car and Christmas presents!!!

The best was when we made a life feed from Istanbul....Professor Emeritus Hafiz, the behavioural expert of self- control. I call that the SECRET WEAPON. The video earlier on the life of our drug addict was awesome. The best video award for the day, if there is such a thing goes to Group 4. I think it doesn't matter if we win or not so long as we are satisfied with our results.

And so it was, finally OVER!!! .....Over!!! ...Over!!! and now holidayz for another 2 weeks...Sigh onli 2
