Freedom...NAAA

The world is changing and the idea of anyone talking about anything was once thought to be possible..well at least in some countries and only in certain issues. To name an example would be America...the so-called free country. However, I never once thought that there was anything you can freely rant or talk about without repercussions.

And speaking about repercussions, the recent uproar on the publications of caricatures relating to Prophet Muhammad on some newspapers worldwide including our very own country who, depsite the outrage by Muslims of the affected countries is a fine example to illustrate this point.

Not to mention any names of Newspapers involved but for those of you who are in Malaysia, one of them was told to stop printing and the other asked for an explanation and the newspaper responded with an apology. CASE CLOSED.. Forgottten and everything returns to normal.

Now...why would people do such things despite warning from all quarters and the media. If you would actually think about it if the cartoon drawn was Jesus or anything related to Christianity, I'm sure there would be consequences, first starting from the Vatican mosty likely asking the perpetrators to stop their act or warned and SECOND a possible uproar and disliking from the Christians which would most likely lead to demonstrations or peaceful protests, probably not reaching the stage where there start torching embassies and threatening people. I'm a Christian and I certainly wouldn't want that sort of thing happening. SO if I were to put my shoes into those Muslims, I would understand why they might go to great lengths to prevent a similar incident to repeat itself again.

America, the free country, where human rights is the driving force of the day and by that Americans have the right to do anything which includes dissing their own president on managing the anti-terror campaign and just about anything under the sun just as long as they don't go over the law. Essentially the existence of a law does not allow freedom to exist. Because by definition according to answers.comfreedom is the condition of being free from restraints, meaning nothing would stop you from doing anything.

So..as a conclusion America is still not a very free country after all but by and large it is still considerably free compared ot most other countries. Now, here's the thing America, is a free country and is also a very developed and advance country always at a cutting edge of technology and can be said as the "centre of the world." as we speak but it is soon to be overtaken by China, but that's a story for another day. Still the point is, with the latest in technology at their disposal, government organisations like the CIA and the NSA, whose duty is....hmmm spy and the like and other things..ok but the SPYING PART, pretty sure about that and the ability to eavesdrop into people's conversation and searching through emails and tapping into peoples phone calls is a breeze to undertake. Recently, this act of terrorizing into peoples private lives have increased...WHY?? all in the name of fighting terrorism and to protect the world from future terrorists attacks. You name it, bombing trains , hotels, or maybe chemical weapons, or another possible orchestrated plane missile.

So it goes, people's private lives aren't so private anymore and what's more if there happens to be any form of suspected terroist planning in any of these spying that they do on people, the natural instinctive action would be to arrest the person even without confirmation that it may be a false alarm or a probable terrorist act in future all in the name of terrorism. This has cause unwanted anxiety amongst Americans, whose lives are constantly monitored by the government and scrutinized so that America would be a save country as possible.

The irony is that all that has been done has not exactly result in a safer place to live in. In fact the loss of privacy has sort of prevented people from expressing their ideas which means restricting their thoughts on views and opinions while sharing with others on the Internet. I'm not really good at this but I hope that anyone who reads this understands. It's a funny thiing that they have now become the terrorist to their own fellow Americans who deserve every form of protection from terrorists. So the goverment of America is feeling threatened and the Bush Administration paranoid on getting Osama bin Laden to justice but just before seeing him and maybe torture him. And their world agenda has has always been anti terrorism but recently not so zealous on bringing it into the international forums.

IMAGINE HEARING THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN...."We will not tire...We will not fall...We will not fail....to fight terrorism. And the other politicians, will be saying...Yea Yea Yea...Terrorism and Osama and 9/11... Just take a look at this cartoon.

And the next.....Oh wait as for the growth. That's not acromegaly but BushMegaly. A new medical anomaly. LOLZ

Looking at this, saying that Mr. Bush has not done anything about terrorism would be
erroneous, saying that he has not done much is also untrue, but saying that he has done too much..yea possibly cause he has now transformed the United States into THE TERRORIST. Going to war in Iraq, has been met with much criticism, despite most developed countries against it and the UN also, obviously. Only his good old buddy Blair seems to be really into it with Bush. Looking back at the outcome, well thousands of civilians and soldiers dead, some soldiers now loss a limb or becoming mentally unsound as a result of a stupid war whose purpose seems to border more on gaining profits masked by the objective of arresting Saddam Hussein for his treacherous crime and freeing the country and finally introducing democracy. A noble cause with a hidden agenda.

As I have now deviated from the title, I guess it's time to end this ranting on terrorism, cause there are more interesting matters at hand.

American Idol

When it comes to singing competitions. I would love it. Just to name a few.. INXS, American Idol and Malaysian Idol

So since American Idol is back. the craze is also back. OK I'm not going to be the next Simon Cowell or Paula Abdul. Enough with those criticisms and let's talk about something else. How bout err...My favourites girls and guys of this competition. To be honours first impression is not always the best judgement but then again I like to pick the ones that I like. Over the weeks, we will then see who is consistent and who has the "Star Look"

Here is the address for all you Idol Fanatics....

Before I go to my favourites, let's discuss who actually deserves to go and not to go among the four just eliminated.

OK, as for the girls, Becky deserves elimination, and as for Stevie, I think the people should give her a chance for another week but anyway just an opinion. Becky seems more like a model to me then a singer + star. Star, she may be but singer not..(YODA like)

AND, for the guys, the affable Bobby Bennett should be eliminated...AWWW how mean. IT's a talent show for *&^'s sake and you will have to choose the best. Not some friendly guy without a good voice and musicality. OK, for me that was the end of the road for him. Patrick, is a bad choice and he sings much better that half the guys standing there. Unfortunately if most of the people out there goes for look, sex appeal, then I guess he shoud be heading straight home. Of course its the first week, so judging by that matter isn't that fair unless allowed to stay. Honestly for me, Patrick looks more like a guy who's doing a desk job more than a star. OK enuf..

My favourites..

The Ladies

a) Mandisa
b) Lisa
c) Katherine(she's so pretty)

The Guys

a) Ace
b) Gedeon
c) Chris
d) Taylor

The list above does not indicate any form of ranking. It's just a random arrangement.

The "product" of idol shows

WARNING: SENSITIVE MATTERS DISCUSSED BELOW. PLEASE DON'T READ THIS POST IF IT OFFENDS YOU!!!

Over the years, I've seen so many talent shows, specifically singing competitions mushrooming all over the place not just in the world but also in Malaysia. To name a few, Akademi Fantasia which is now on its way to its 3rd season, and then there was Superstar, a brand new talent show in Mandarin, and of course the well-known idol show Malaysian Idol, whose ideas were basically the same as all the other "idol" shows around the world and if it continues this year it would be also on its way to the 3rd season.

It seems that all this reality tv series has become a hit that has permeated into every single broadcasting TV station in the world. It all started with Survivor, as far as I could REMEMBER was the origin of reality TV...and then BOOM...everybody started following it talent shows, competitions, job opportunities amongst the rich and the powerful, modelling, future husbands and wives. As you can see, its getting pretty saturated.

OK let's get back to the point. Now, as you know all those singing talent shows have the same objective and that is to choose the best among the group, as well as looking in terms of talent, voice, mass appeal, and of course make albums and become famous after their talent stint. If you were to look at Jacklyn Victor,( OK is this the correct spelling, well anyway it sounds the same)... I say she is extremely talented, gifted and well.. if I were to compare her to the likes of Fantasia, Kelly Clarkson, Rubben and the recent Carrie Underwood, she would give them a run for their money if not demolish most of them. Well popularity is not for everyone if not a great challenge. To rise to the occasion, one must work hard and yes if you are talking about the entertainment industry, hard work is one of the criteria. You might as well include great looks, style and a bit of luck may bring you further.

Having said that, of all the American Idols, only Kelly Clarkson has actually made an impression. I think to date she has already three albums at her disposal, most of them doing well and also earning her awards like in the recent Grammy Awards, Kelly picked up 2 awards, which is great. We MAY be able to consider Carrie Underwood in the future, but since her album is more on the country pop genre which does not really appeal to this generation of hip hop, rock and R&B, I think Kelly Clarkson fairs better. Let's look at our own side, our very own Jacklyn Victor. As i've said great voice, great talent, gifted and one more which I want to add.... musicality, but still she's not doing well locally. WHY?? Still not good enough?? I doubt that. I think the problem lies with our own music industry. By right an artist of her calibre could dish out a couple of albums and win at least some awards in the AIM or any known existing awards shows locally which I'm not really into...DUN ASK ME WHY

Could it be she had become too laid back after her success?I still dont't think that is the reason. Maybe our music industry is pretty screwed. So the easiest solution will be to leave this country and make it big overseas. Just like our chinese singers Z-Chen, Fish Leong, Penny Tai, Guang Liang all are doing very well in Taiwan. There must have considered the possibility of making it big locally before they decide on doing it elsewhere. So, it could be the local music industry does not have the means to allocate funds for them to promote themselves or they had no confidence in them making it big so why not use the funds for something else. No as you can see, those people that I've mentioned earlier are doing well locally and internationally, something to be proud of as Malaysians. In fact, there are not that many artists who can really make it big save for Siti Nurhaliza whose biggest international stint to date has to be her performance at the renowned and prestigious Royal Albert Hall, where only artists of a certain reputation are only allowed to perform there.

Then again, you might want to argue on our second Malaysian Idol, Daniel but his still rather fresh. So let's wait another two years to make a fair comparison. Jacklyn Victor has in fact had her own band and she regularly perfoms in clubs. It's pretty unfair for her to sit around and enjoy second class popularity when in fact she could have deserved better. So I just wish that some recording company overseas might just grab her and do justice for her. Than would be another loss for Malaysia, but isn't that what happens to talented and gifted people not just music but also scientists, lawyers, doctors and engineers.

All in a day's work

OK... here goes the mundane ongoings of my usual everyday life. Well there are some variations though. Well let me dictate some of the usual routine work or stuff that i usuall do.

OK here goes:

8.30: Wake Up/Wash myself up
9.00: Breakfast
9.15-12.00: Babysitting OR GHKL

12.00-1.00pm: Lunch
1.00-4.00pm: Watch TV/Watch videos/Piano/Guitar/Photoshop/Elective Project/Babysitting
4.30-6.00pm: Babysitting/Watch TV/Jogging

OK basically this is what I do to spend my friggin' time away. Of course there is some flexibility in the things that I do especially when my younger brother screams for attention or in other words please play with me.

Is there any difference in my daily routine. Luckily I find something to do so that I could occupy my otherwise normal time everyday...Compiling a mini-booklet of drugs which I have learned over the past one and a half years and after about two days, I've successfully completed this rather crazy task of sitting down to write all those funky drug names and then transfer it into my hard drive.

The result.. 6 pages of drugs which range from antimuscarinics, antiinflammatory drugs, antihypertensive, antibiotics pretty darn lot. I think there's a bout couple of hundred names. Just wandered how I've managed to stuff all those names to sit for my EOS a few months back.

Need to sleep....Get ready for Champions League Match in 4 hours
CHELSEA vs BARCELONA.

Discovering me.....

Just as i was surfing some of my friends blog sites, i noticed a few of them had been doing some soul-searching, in the sense of discovering who they really are, what they should do in their career based on some personality tests. Interesting as it may sound, i took the liberty of doing some of these personality tests at the well known, Tickle

But before going into some of those tests that i take, to my surprise those friends of mine who actually took the test, actually discovered that their true potential lies more in the arts instead of science. One is doing medicine and the other biotechnology. According to their results from the personality tests, their true talent is in creativity, imagination and abstract thinking. One of my friend, even had literature!! How does that sound? Now common sense would tell you that literature and biotechnology don't mix at all. One will be a Shakespeare study and the other would be molecular chemistry, drugs and mind-boggling facts which does not seem to stop increasing by the day.

Clearly, the result told them that their career prospect does not lie in medical world or scientific research. More likely, an interior designer, a poet and artist, whatever.....

And so what did Tickle tell me. Ok so i did not take all the premium test. Those who have been there will know what i mean.

First, what job is right for me, I was pretty amazed, if not shocked. Well, whatever it is, i hope that the report on rightjob/wrong job can be trusted. My first job, most recommended by them is.....and ARCHITECT.I was like OMG, what the crap, did i answer my questions correctly, or weas my mind fiddling with my thoughts to get me to click the " correct " answer. Whatever it is, Tickle has a good reputation for having professionals preparing the questionnaires for people who seek to know more about themselves. And so architect was the first, so wha's next...nothing to do with medicine though. This is it:

a) Graphic artist
b) Film editor
c) Creative writer
d) Interior designer
e) Commercial Artist
f) Musician

Did you see Doctor there....No... Ok so now what??... Did I just screw my future heading into the wrong field or worse burned up close to 100k for my medical education, when I actually could use it to study those courses, having more than enough money to study each of those courses and graduating with still enough money to buy a car of my own...Ok not a Honda, probably a Kelisa. Whatever it is, I dunno whether or not I am in the same shoes as my friends. Still Lost seeking to find their true identity, who they really are, who they should be, doctor or engineer or lawyer??? I'm sure most of you out there especially Malaysians who are still studying, would have thought the same.

Now who's fault is it? Is it our parents, for trying to endlessly remind us whereby you have to be in a professional course like a lawyer, an engineer, a doctor to be truly successful and earn respect from others. Now that is what the parents wish for on their side... What about on their children's point of view? Is it the same. Do they really want to be doctors or do they want to be someone else. OK cut the rhetoric speech ere.... Time for me to fill in..

As for me, I have never thought of any other career prospects other than being a scientist, a doctor or and engineer. Ok no lawyer... BUT still professional and still highly respected. In my mind I always thought that you know if you could be one of those one day, you will be great, successful, rich, earn big bucks, own a big house and a nice car. The thought of that still drives me and motivate me to do what I am doing now..to be a good doctor. Was it an inate thing, where my mind has been genetically enginnered to think that way or was it my parents who had become professionals in influencing me how to think at an early age...and it goes like this..YOu know son, being a doctor is really godd, if not be an engineer la... if you become one..one day...I'll be really happy for you. And my most likely reply would be OH..doctor ar....OK la..

God knows whether i truly know what a doctor does when I am still an innocent toddler still ignorant and blissful about the world surrounding me. I wander if those "rich, big bucks, big cars or big house" was actually inseminated by my parents...WELL only God knows.

So great what do i do now, go on with life and move with the flow. Sounds like a happy-go-lucky kinda guy. No. I'm not like that but I would love to think like that. Actually I dunno what to do, I know I'm good in Maths, remembering things and so far medical studies hasn't been all that hard except for ocassionaly sleepness nights, baggy eyes, and hard work. Still fine with me. And for those out there who happen to think of doctor, well sleepness nights, hard work and baggy eyes is part of the package, except if you are a machine whose mind works like a P4 processor or a dual core processor. Whatever.......

Probably, I should just go ahead with my studies and let God help me on the way. Of course you don't need to see patients all your life of being a doctor. There are always other opportunities like lecturers, researchers, medical journalism...the list goes

Geez.....

Ok..dun bother to understand why i chose that title for my ramblings below. Don't bother even to ask cause i have no idea why i chose it also. Probably its because my subconscious mind is telling me..ok this should be the title.. No idea...Anyway straight to the point, if there is something which i really like and also distinguishes me from most people out there, is that i love gadgets, gizmos...computers...really. I mean i just would get into these daydreams of my future house surrounded by LCD screens, wireless connection 24/7 online, with super broadband connection, floating speakers flying around my hall, adjusting to the various sounds i would prefer when watching either a movie, listening to music or recording. Anything new gadgets would draw me to find out more about it, that of ourse depends on the aesthetics, it's functionality.

Well what ever it is, this site engadget.com.. tells everything, anything new, special, gadgets, ok i ran out of words to explaion what i want to say.OK i know i've been sorta promoting this site, cos if you u guys have been reading blog, then u would realize that i've mentioned about this website b4.

Anyway, what could have drawn me to write this. OK...apparently some guys could not wait for the PS3 to be released. I think most of the people out there probably are hoping for a better gaming machine than the XBox 360. Well whatever it is, i think it is a good strategy, cos according to the article on engadget, Sony wants to be really prepared before launching the PS3, unlike the Xbox 360 kind of caught rushing things, like scrambling to introduce their much-awaited next gen game machine.

Personally, I dunno why Microsoft does things like this. What i mean is, you know most of their software are not that great. They once said you know Windows XP would be bug free, no blue screen of death and will be much safer than previous operating systems. WEll if that was true we would not security patches to cover up "holes" in their programs. Microsoft scrambling to introduce the firewall into the SP2 or was it SP1 of Windows Xp. And of course adding the firewall to the next Windows Vista. I sure hope that whatever Microsoft have promised will come true when Vista comes out.

So the point is, their "finished product is not so finished after all". Of course, there is no such thing as perfection, but at least just make sure that people get their money's worth. So let's be hopeful that the next Windows will silence the critics.

Hehehe, one of them me...
