MIcrosoft Zune Project.....

OH...wow, it seems like the "Big Boy" is coming back with a vengeance as they try to take over the already saturated market of MP3 players. I really wander how Microsoft is going to achieve that given that Apple(obviously), Creative(duh!), Samsung, Sansa, iRiver and other 3rd party brands already flooded the market with bewildering choices of MP3s for consumers. Not that I'm anti microsoft, but just buzz off and focus on Vista.

It seems that when some companies dominate the market, you will definitely see Microsft coming from behind hoping to get the lion's share of it. Take Adobe, seems like Microsoft tengah tak puas with their pdf format, so they decided they are now going to come out with something bigger in Microsoft Office 2007. The X box 360 came after Sony PS2 was a great success. Alright Xbox didn't do badly and now MP3 players??.

from JupiterResearch

This is an acknowledgement that Microsoft is clearly not happy with Apple's dominance in digital music. I don't think it is concern about new growth scenarios. It's more a concern that Apple controls a key endpoint in the digital home and that Apple bits flow only to other Apple controlled bits or devices. That scenario doesn't bode well for Microsoft's larger ambitions
I wander what are their larger ambitions, to take over the digital world?? face it Microsoft, u need to share....

Creating a platform - iPod is more than a single device. It's a platform in and of itself with a whole eco system of cases, car kits, speakers and docks. No doubt that MSFT will work hard to make sure that they fill some of the gap directly with first party stuff, but this is one area where consumer choice goes a long way in making the platform a success.
First and foremost, their so-called "Zune" will never be as successful as iPod, iPod will always and surely continue to receive support from the public. I doubt that they could extend their platform to an entire new Microsft Ecosystem. HANDS UP WHO WILL GET SICKER IF THEY SEE MICROSOFT IN THEIR CARS AND THEIR HOME THEATRE SYSTEM

Creating a lifestyle device - Microsoft is clearly going to face a battle here. It's good that they're building a unique brand and following the Xbox tradition, distancing themselves somewhat from Microsoft identity but that's not enough. Zune isn't a bad name (and yes, that's the real name it seems although i did like Argo a lot better). It's going to be hard for them to create the same level of cachet that Apple has with the iPod.
Yup... absolutely correct... to see Microsoft actually having the same amount of success as the iPod would be difficult given their bad reputation of the famous bluescreen, their security holes and their promise of a better OS.. which hopefully is fulfilled in Vista

Good Luck MS

Dinner at "Hao Kee restaurant"

Yesterday, "me" had a wonderful dinner at "Hao Kee" restaurant, where the food is juz awesome and rocking good.. Not to mention that it is at Cheras, so getting there won't be much of a problem and it adds to my list of good chinese restaurants in Cheras.

The portion was also amazingly humble for a restaurant operating with so many customers coming in and out, which includes us. The fish was huge, i think the biggest portion I have eaten in any Chinese restaurant I've been to. Po lo yuk, looks strange at first, but never tasted strange, and the lin ngau was great, chicken wine came in a mini barrel, so when I saw it I was like, what kind of chicken needs to be served in a mini barrel. Alright I won't go further. The food has got to be tasted and go there with an empty stomach!!!

Speaking about customers, they actually have a PA system to tell customers if their car was obstructing traffic. That's because when people come and eat, there will be people doing double/ triple parellel parking in front of their restaurants so if anyone who wants to come out won't have a problem doing so.

The only problem coming to this place to whet your appetite would be the the parking which is so limited because of the darn good business and the roads are annoyingly small for a shophouse area.

Lelaki Luarbiasa Kembali!!!

Just last week I had the opportunity to watch Lelaki Luarbiasa Kembali with my cousins and my sister at a place call Masa Segiempat so to speak. It was great. Really and it is a must watch show. For those who are not a fan of superman or just gotten nauseous upon me mentioning about it, I think it is time to stop following the herd out there blindly like lost sheep in the wilderness. Please try to understand why this show has continued to draw people to watch it despite Christopher Reeves playing that role a long time ago, the Smallville series and the lousy, forgettable and stinking Superman series.(the one with Teri Hatcher)

OK, that might be the worst direct translation of Superman: Returns... to Malay but then again my BM isn't top notch. It's laaammmme..and it is more like The Extraodinary Man Returns. I wander if they really is a show like dat, people will come and see it or not. Alright forgive my atrocious Malay, and I din bother looking at the subtitles during the show...WHO CAREZ!!!!

Right, so was it a great show??

Well to say the least I think that it was a job well done by Brian Singer...

Hooray!!! so did you think dat Brian Singer leaving X-Men was a good idea??

Ermm... Maybe, I won't know if someone else were to direct the show, it would be as good as this. But really, I think that Brian Singer did a real good job. Thankfully, it was not all Superman saves the day kind of thing, I mean as in the cliche type. Somehow director Brian added an element of freshness in it. There was emotional development and drama at the same time. Feelings were put to the test and thankfully Kevin Spacey is quite a villain. I think he actually inherited a lot of Lex Luthor's trait in the comic, evil mixed with humour..That's something pretty rare..for villains. They usually fall in the category of "PLANNING TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD" (yawn) and kill all heroes/superheroes.

Would you mind revealing the juicy bits?

NO!! you dumbass!! Oh sorry forgive my language. If you want to continue this discussion, I suggest that you please watch the show than come back to me...

So would you mind rating the show?

I'll give it an 8.5/10

What do you think of Kate Bosworth?

I think she's pretty sweet and elegant and... How in the world did she won that Pulitzer Prize?? well women are just women ...anyway..she's in denial
Can you please elaborate on that??

Not now...next please..

Any more comments, Dr Bryan..

I love the show but I was so annoyed when my sister keeps saying " OH He's so cute...OMG BRENDAN ROUTH'S SO CUTE...I CAN'T STAND IT ANYMORE!!" IT continued until the end of the show..."YEAAAHH PRETTY BOY WINS!!" I was like ermm... yaa you can go profess your love to him now. OH since there would most probably be a sequel, it gave her even more hope of seeing her PRETTY BOY....EEEEWWWWW...bleaaaaarrcchchhh!!

That was the moment which truly made me nauseous. Thankfully my vomitting reflex wasn't triggered or at least was voluntarily controlled.

So people if you have girls watching this with you, who has an affinity for Brendan Routh at the same level like my sister, than expect the same kind of torment. Otherwise, it would just be ordinary for all girls to react when seeing someone they deem hot, cute or sexy... Alright watever..

PEOPLE GO WATCH SUPERMAN!!!!!

HAIL THE GREAT ITALIANS!!!

I know that this must be a bit late to mention about the victory of the Azurris but hey... it's the World Cup and the finale of the World Cup deserves of course some attention especially from a football afficionado like me...

With that said and done, I think the finals wasn't the finals that I had hoped for, but thank goodness it was the Italians who won. It's time to have pizza and goodbye snails...

Alright now for the winners...

  • Marco Materazzi scored the first goal for Italy in a very beautiful header.
  • Andrea Pirlo, Marco Materazzi who scored the equaliser, Daniele Da Rossi, Alessandro Del Piero and Fabio Grosso all scored from 12 yards out to send the Italians into celebration and the French into mourning.(5-3)
  • Thank you for destroying the hopes and dreams of the French and their fans. It was sweet.( I'm sorry but the French had so many chances and they din make the most out of it.)
And now for the losers,

  • There were two very great headers from Zizou, the "Magician" . Both were great in accuracy and power.
  • The first really tested the skills of the most expensive goalkeeper of the world, Gianluigi Buffon, tipping it off the target over the post. If it wasn't for him, France may have won(ok may..ppl)
  • The second was a headbutt on the chest of Materazzi, which resulted in the dramatic send off as seen above. WHAT A SHAME for such a great footballer at this crucial moments.
  • David Trezeguet, succesfully missed his penalty, resulting in 3-5 which sealed the victory for France.

But let's not forget what the World Cup has achieved. It brought people from all races and all walks of life to a common interest and passion, football. The World Cup has not seen any violence or riots from fans nor has it seen any acts of terrorism. Football was the world's language during the entire tournament. Friendships were fostered between winners and losers. Everyone had a great time. The World Cup is indeed the greatest show on Earth.

My First Encounter with a Celebrity....

Ok...the title says it all. I've never come face to face with a celebrity, never thought that it would occur in my life...Why?? MEDIC...LA DUH!!! OK maybe sometimes doctors or specialists may come to meet one or many( if you're famous) during their consultation but to me that doesn't count. It's the one on one interaction that really counts(for me ) as a criteria for meeting someone who is a celebrity. I've seen Resh Monu in MidValley before at Tower Records and the distance was say...5 feet(BIG DEAL..)

Coming back from where I've strayed...The celebrity that I am mentioning is none other than Michael Voon...Huh?? Who's that?? See that's the problem with Malaysia's entertainment industry...If Michael Voon is based in Malaysia, he would be known only to those who frequents dances, acting and theatre production or if you happen to be a frequent visitor to Actors Studio Bangsar or KLPac, you would know him otherwise you ain't gonna know any crap about him. If Michael Voon is based in US, he would be somewhere among the ranks of the well-known artists or music producers or even BROADWAY.EVERYONE WOULD KNOW HIM THEN.....

IS he that prolific in the local entertainment industry??

Ok for starters, this picture and the comments below basically summarizes some of his major contributions:

Michael Xavier Voon graduated with Magna Cum Laude in 3 disciplines from the USA namely in Performing Arts, Graphic Communications and Fine Arts. He is listed in the Who's Who Amongst American Students in 3 consecutive annual publications and won performance awards in UCLA and University of Washington, Seattle, USA. Michael has been a college lecturer for the past 14 years. With a passion for all facets of the performing arts, Michael is an educator, choreographer, actor, performer, director, tv/film talent and digital visual artist with works featured in USA, France and Australia.

Michael lectured at CENFAD (Centre for Advanced Design) in KL and will soon lecture at Sunway College in its Musical Theatre course. He appears as the BlueHyppo in TMNET's Best of Broadband ads for TV and facilitates various workshops across Malaysia and the USA. Michael performed at Times Square New York in April 2005 and facilitated workshops in NYC, Dallas (International Christian Dance Conference) and Colorado. He has been judging Inter-School Drama and Dance Competitions around the nation, returning as a judge in the Kakiseni Cameronian Awards and repeated as performance coach for the 2nd Season of Malaysian Idol.

Current projects include performance coaching for 8TV's new TV show named "Realiti", choreographing for the Munchys TV ad and choreographing a sequence in a feature movie entitled "Susuk".

OK why am I talking about Michael Voon??

Alright it's because he's now in charge of handling our acappella group. His involvement in the group consists of choreographing some small dance movements, developing our musicality and also helping us choose the right songs. He is an extremely busy man with a very hectic schedule so getting him was no easy task. In other words it's almost like a miracle getting him to help us with the show. I think it's amazing that he would agree to help us out on our next performance....

Anyway..his comments aren't pleasant to the ears(kind of expected judging by his experience..)IN his opinion, 80% of our songs are deemed unsuitable to his ears. NEARLY PUTTING HIM TO SLEEP was his first comment, which he later tried to mitigate it by saying "it doesn't capture the interest of your future audience." IT was demoralising after going through so many weeks of singing about 12 songs that it wasn't good enough.

So far joining The Wicked Pitches has really intrigued me a lot with the amount of things that we are getting involve in... SO if its Michael Voon now, what next???

COUNTDOWN TO THE FINALS

ITALY vs FRANCE

2 MINUTE BLITZ!!!

It was a battle that could be easily predicted my any Tom, Dick and Harry. Germany would definitely win the game. I was also darn sure it would be a Germany - France finals. Looks like it's another round of predictions for the finals. Bet the pundits are going to lose big time on this. But It was a good match to stay up. Truly unbelievable.... Even Paul and Shebby could not see that coming...

The 1st half was a great display of football, much better than the forgetable defensive stand that the Germans took during their match with Argentina. Both sides take lots of chances going forward, relentlessly trying to score a goal. Still I did not believe that Italy would win the match even with their posession. But effort and shots on goal speaks otherwise. With Italy taking the bulk of offsides and foul. I knew a goal was sure to come but it never came until the end of the first half. The second half was dull. I thought that Germany may just finish the game by scoring a goal.

Then, it dragged on into extra time. I really felt that
the match begin only when extra time, kicked in. The Italians came alive and was really playing football....Both sides were really into the game actually. It was such a close shave for the Germans. It could have been 1-o for Italy in the 91st minute. Then it was the ball which hit the post. Again, it could have been 2-0. At that time I knew something was coming, but I didn't know when. Then the 119th minute came. It was the beginnning of a blitz which totally destroyed Germans hopes of enterin the finals. It was a rare moment of inspiration from Pirlo, providing the cross which was curled back to the top corner, beating Jens Lehmann well into injury time. Then the final blow came. A wonderful counter-attack, seeing Alessandro del Piero hitting one more into the other corner of the goal. IT was total disappointment for the German supporters... Cameras zoom in on tearfull and gloomy German supporters. I bet the entire nation must be mourning. BUt it was great for me..... IT WAS SWEET REVENGE!!!!( for kicking Argentina out.....muahaahahaha)

Congratulations to the Azurris!!!

VIVA VIVA ITALIA!!!!

It is time for a countdown.....

Argentina vs Germany

It is call the "final" by some. Truly, the performance between Argentina and Germany wasn't a spectacular display of football. The only match that suitably describes it as such would be the match between Argentina and Serbia & Montnegro.

But it wasn't that bad after all. Clearly in my own opinion, I felt Argentina was playing a better game, doing really well in the passing and crossing. The aerial ball control was also very good given the fact that everytime when the ball flies in the air towards an Argentina player, 2 or 3 Germany players would be around. In terms of technique, I think that Argentina was much better. If you're talking about physical fitness, the credit would definitely be going to the Germans, who display much greater stamina and did not show the lethargy as seen in the opposing side during extra time.

I was definitely banging on the South Americans to win this, the moment the first goal went in, I was hoping for a second one to kill off German's chances. Screw the 72000-strong fan support and home ground advantage. That would certainly show on the faces of their fans. Unfortunately, as past experiences have shown, France 98, S. Korea 2002, prove that home support was far too great for an opposing team to overcome. At the end of the day, it wasn't superb technique, physical fitness or the extra hours of training that draw the line. Mental fitness came into play and ultimately this didn't show in the way the South Americans executed their penalties, not even close to world class. Even Michael Ballack with an injury did better.

MAYBE THE DAMN REFEREE WAS BIASED. JUST LIKE IN S. KOREA.

Let's see how it turns out between Germany and Italy.
